The University of Sharjah
recently concluded the Second International Conference on Arabs and Muslims
History of Sciences, and the 11th Conference of the Arab Union for
Space and Astronomy Sciences, with the participation of 423 scientists,
specialists, researchers, graduate students and space and astronomy enthusiasts
from 42 countries around the world, in addition to representatives from the United Nations and the
European Space Agency (ESA) and the US National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA) and the International
Astronomical Union (IAU).
Participants
conveyed their thanks to his Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi,
Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, President of the University of
Sharjah, for his patronage
and attendance of the opening ceremony of the Conference, praising the
establishment of Sharjah International Arabs and Muslims History of Sciences organization
at the University, expressing their confidence that it will be a breakthrough
in the scientific world’s outlook, and that it will bring the ultimate goal intended to reflect the
fact that the science of Arabs and Muslims has been and will continue to be the
very essence of science and technologies that the world lives now due to it.
The recommendations of
the conferees called to highlight and reflect the benefit of Arab and Muslim
scholars in the drafting of the foundations of human civilizations, to form the
essence of scientific disciplines of contemporary scientific knowledge in the
world, and enhancing communication between
scientists and researchers in the history of science and reflect the impact of
scientists, along with documented testimonials of non-Muslim scholars in fairly
assessing the achievements of Arabs and Muslims, and urging the Islamic and Arab universities to
develop electives dealing with history of science achievements of Arabs and
Muslims in catalyst for looking ahead and participating actively in it.
It also called for
the need to support youth leaders from the second row to take responsibility to
highlight the civilized image of the nation and establish of Arab scientific rules
capable of meeting the challenges of the future, particularly in the areas of
astronomy, space and air, and address the International Astronomical Union to name Supernova
1006 star, as Ben Radwan star since he is the first one to monitor it, and call
upon all members of the Arab Union of Astronomy and Space Sciences to provide
support and possible proposals for the implementation of the project of
headquarters for the Arab Union of Astronomy and Space Sciences in the
Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
And recommendations showed
thanks and appreciation to the Arab Union of Astronomy and Space Sciences for
the material and moral support provided by the Government of Jordan for the
establishment of the Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Training,
and support of the Youth Forum hosted by the Sirius Astronomy Association in
the city of Constantine in Algeria within the capital city of Arabic culture in
2015 after Ramadan 2015, and the announcement of entering of the Republic of
Somalia to the Supreme Council of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space
Sciences while the announcement of their representatives will be done later.
The recommendations also
included follow-up on hosting and organizing the 12th Conference of
the Arab Union for Space and Astronomy Sciences, announcing the time and place
during a year from now and inviting all astronomers and amateurs who are able
to contribute sound scientific articles in astronomical topics, to enrich the
Astronomical Universe magazine issued by the General Secretariat of the Arab
Union for Astronomy And Space Sciences, in addition to the establishment of a
comprehensive and thoroughly documented database with respect to specialized
competencies in astronomy and space in the Arab world and the world in terms of
their professional, scientific production and their contributions to building
satellite observatories and astronomical centers in Arab countries that do not
have such institutions.
The participants
recommended that publication of the valuable research presented in the
Conference after its academic evaluation using scientific methods and
publishing it in a special folder for the Conference, and hosting the seventh
Islamic astronomical Conference in Jordan with its date to be announced later.
The Special
Committee of the Conferences expressed their appreciation for the efforts made
by the scientific, organizational, administrative and social task forces of the
University of Sharjah under the leadership of Dr. Humaid Majol Al Nuaimi,
Chairman of the Conference and Chairman of the Arab Union of Astronomy and
Space Sciences.
