Year Of Innovation

In line of the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to support innovation in the UAE and realize the UAE's aspirations and insightful vision of its wise leadership in innovation which has become a top priority in the country, the Ministry of Education seeks to foster innovation and excellence in the country through the launch of innovative and quality initiatives to achieve this quest.


Ministry Initiatives :


  1. Innovation Exhibition

    1. Initiative: Innovation Exhibition


    The National Innovation Exhibition (NIE) was organized in Festival Arena, Dubai Festival City as part of the UAE's Innovation week. The exhibition aims to bring about a qualitative leap in the national innovation system in the country. The exhibition provides an attractive innovative atmosphere for learners and educators, enhances their passion for innovation and allows them to meet leading international innovators and centers of excellence as well as all leading entities in the field of innovation within and outside the UAE. They work together on building fruitful partnerships to develop products that are the results of implementing their innovative ideas. The exhibition also gives them the opportunity to learn, share knowledge, raise questions, and discuss their innovative ideas and work together to achieve visible innovative and sustainable results.

    2. Initiative: Innovation Exhibition


    The Ministry of Education (MoE) launched the ‘Innovation Exhibition 2015’ at Mirdif City Center, Dubai, in addition to exhibitions organized by the Educational Zones to enrich schools with activities and workshops especially designed for students to complement the program for Innovation Week. The exhibition included a selected innovative ideas for students of schools nationwide.

    3. Initiative name: Future Ambassadors


    The ministry of Education sent 45 students to the United States and the Netherlands to enable them to acquire the tools of modern science and instill leading values and ideas in their minds. The Future Ambassadors program involves sending students to selected world-class universities to help them identify their academic path, and reflects the country's aspirations for sustainable development in line with the National Innovation Strategy.

Year Of Reading

The ministry of Education (MoE) approved its strategic plan to activate the national reading policy based on directives including: UAE Vision 2021, Government Excellence System, National Reading Policy, Smart Government Initiative and National Innovation Strategy. The ministry formed the UAE Reads teams on the level of the ministry, educational zones and schools which included students, parents and influencers in the community in addition to employees in the ministry and the field. Several initiatives that targeted students, ministry and field employees, parents, individuals and community institutions. The ministry adopted assessment tools and follow-up for those initiatives through an assessment form and periodical field visits to evaluate students' interest in reading.

    1. Initiative Name: Adding novels to the systematic reading in grades 9, 10, 11, 12


    This initiative aims to teach students analytical reading of high models of international and Arab literature.

    2. Initiative Name: Launching Reading Clubs at Schools


    Dedication of an innovative reading corner in each school (Reading Club) which grants honorary membership to local community members and influencers according to their cultural and literature contributions.

    3. Initiative Name: Summer Reading Festival

    Reading has been included in the schools' operational plan to create a reading generation that meets the aspirations of the wise leadership and can lead the future by activating the reading activity during classrooms.

    As part of the National Reading Policy initiatives, a reading festival was held (Reading Carnival under the theme of "Reading is Happiness"). The reading torch was launched from the top of flag post in Sharjah the cultural capital, on Khorfakkan Corniche. The festival included all schools "Annual Reading Festival" with participation of schools' students and employees of various entities.

Year Of Giving

UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on 24 December 2016, declared 2017 as the ''Year of Giving''. The "Year of Giving" will focus on three main pillars: the first of which aims at creating a sense of community responsibility in the private sector so as to fulfil its role in serving the community and contribute in the developmental march of the country. The second pillar focuses on enhancing the spirit of volunteering and encouraging specialized volunteer programs that will effectively assist in social development and community services. The third pillar aims at instilling loyalty and commitment in the next generations to serve their country, a trait that is characteristic of Emiratis who were raised to love and serve their country which has been deeply rooted, for decades, in the hearts of both nationals and residents.

  1. Visiting Orphans in the Children's Village (SOS)

    1. Initiative name: Visiting Orphans in the Children's Village (SOS)


    Summary of the initiative: Participation in painting houses and decorating the playgrounds of the village for children to play. Details: The students who participated in the Ambassadors of the Giving program visited the orphans' village. The visit started by meeting the children and embracing them to draw a smile on their faces by playing with them in group games. The ambassadors then completed their voluntary work by painting the walls in the village. Some students painted the façade of an old house with bright colors. Other groups painted and made drawings to decorate the play grounds in the village.

    2. Initiative Name: A voluntary visit to a school that cares for the deaf


    Students participating in the Ambassadors of the Giving program paid a voluntary visit to the Center for the Education of People of Determination: Deaf. Our students have prepared for the visit by learning some language terms in advance to help them communicate with this category. Deaf students interacted with the Ambassadors of the Giving and appreciated this good initiative. Our students also organized some group games, interactive activities, and everyone decorated the walls with special drawings. Ambassadors shared with the deaf children their food before handing them gifts.

    3. Initiative name: Distribution of food parcels to the village's less fortunate


    Summary of the initiative: Distribution of food to the villagers and distribution of school bags and educational games for their children. The ambassadors of giving paid a voluntary visit to a poor village and toured its neighborhoods on foot and greeted the residents and talked to them. They distributed food parcels containing rice, sugar, flour and milk and distributed school bags and educational games to the village's children.

    Summary of the initiative: Drawing a smile of the faces of the village's children by interacting with them and giving them toys and gifts. Details: Students participating in the Ambassadors of the Giving program paid a voluntary visit to center of Anouska village where they interacted with the less fortunate children and distributed toys and gifts to them and helped put a smile on their faces.

    5. Initiative Name: Preparing food for orphans


    Summary of the initiative: visit the orphans and cook food and feed all the children of the village. Details: The students participating in the Ambassadors of Giving program paid a voluntary visit to the village's orphan children. The students were divided into five groups. Each group prepares and cooks the food meal for family and share it with them. The prepared food was well received by everyone who were extremely happy. The ambassadors concluded their work by cleaning the kitchen of the house and then bid farewell to the residents. The ambassadors at this visit felt the pleasure of volunteering and helping needy people.

    6. Name of Initiative: Participation in the preservation of the natural environment


    Summary of the initiative: a voluntary visit to a nature reserve and participation in plant cultivation. Details: The ambassadors of giving paid a voluntary visit to ILE AUX AIGRETTES, a nature reserve and the island of the state of Maricos. Ambassadors learned about the importance of preserving the environment and its natural diversity, toured the island on foot, and saw the efforts made to preserve the natural environment and then planted some endangered plants. The Ambassadors in this visit learned that giving is not only for man but for the plant, the animal, the environment and the land on which we live.

    7. Initiative Name: Supporting the blood donation drive


    Summary of the Initiative: Visit the Blood Donation Center and support the existing campaign. Details: The ambassadors of giving visited the headquarters of the blood donation campaign in the village's center. They first learned about the procedures followed and ways to organize similar blood donation campaigns. Participants also learned how to help with donor sampling while taking security and safety measures. They also learned about advertising methods and ways to encourage the public to donate and support the campaign.

    8. Name of the initiative: Visiting patients in hospital


    Summary of the initiative: A visit to the hospital of the city and consoling the children with thalassemia. Details: The ambassadors of giving visited the hospital - SSSRM where they visited the section of children with Thalassemia to check on them, comfort them and instill a spirit of giving in them. They embodied noble feelings in dealing and playing with children and distributing gifts and games to them, which brought joy and happiness to their hearts.

    9. Initiative name: reforestation and conservation of the natural environment


    Summary of the initiative: Contribution to reforestation and regeneration of natural areas. Details: The Ambassadors of Giving visited a mountainous area where they saw one of the mountains, which was destroyed and became without trees due to the irresponsible activities of some individuals. Ambassadors contributed to the restoration of the natural life of this area by planting new and alternative trees for previously chopped trees.

    10. Name of the initiative: Visit the center of education and clinic of people with epilepsy


    Details: The ambassadors of giving visited a center for the treatment and care of epilepsy patients. The Ambassadors mingled and worked in various activities with the children. They read stories for children and exchanged conversations with them. The ambassadors were briefed on the activity of the clinic and the significant role that it plays in helping this group of patients.

    Summary of the Initiative: Embracing and supporting people of determination especially children Details: The Ambassadors of giving paid a voluntary visit to a center for educating and caring for people of determination. The ambassadors carried out many volunteer activities, distributed food and drink on them, conducted useful competitions. Ambassadors did not hesitate to play with children and were very keen to bring joy and delight to their hearts.

    Details: The Ambassadors of Giving program spent a voluntary day at Mother Teresa's care home for elderly women. The ambassadors of giving did not hesitate to serve the elderly and cleaned the house, the floors, the rooms, the doors and the beds. Some of our students worked on ironing and arranging the mothers' clothes. The ambassadors distributed food to the guests and helped feed the elderly. They were unable to eat on their own, and our students prepared parcels containing personal care products and distributed them to the women of the house before leaving. They spent time with mothers to comfort their loneliness in the house and talked to them which made it a unique experience full of human emotions, good and giving.

Shaikh Zayed Year Initiatives

The year 2018 marks 100 years since the birth of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the UAE, who passed away in 2004. To commemorate this historic national occasion, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates has declared that 2018 will officially be known in the UAE as the Year of Zayed. The Year of Zayed will feature a series of events and initiatives in the UAE and internationally, designed to commemorate the memory of the late Sheikh Zayed, and showcase his impact and legacy, and promote the values that he displayed throughout his life in creative and interactive ways. Consistent with the values of the late Sheikh Zayed, it is intended that the Year of Zayed will involve people of all ages, nationalities, faiths and backgrounds in the UAE and internationally. The Year of Zayed is being coordinated by the Founder’s Office and Local Committees for the Year of Zayed established in each Emirate; all under the guidance of the Higher National Committee for the Year of Zayed.

    To highlight the life of the late Sheikh Zayed, may his soul rest in peace, by creating stories inspired by the values of Zayed, may his soul rest in peace, strengthening national identity and learning about the history of the UAE, in cooperation with the National Archives.

    The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul in peace, paid significant attention to sport and encouraged the UAE people to exercise. He had also been an athlete and a role model for generations. This role will be highlighted by the UAE school championships that will be held in the UAE.

    The program seeks to activate the role of Zayed the Leader and highlight his leadership skills in order to activate sports activities and programs in schools through student leaderships.     The Year of Zayed 2018 national competitions for robotics, programming, and artificial intelligence come within the framework of the Ministry of Education's plan to develop and adopt national competitions according to international competitions standards. We aim to instill competitiveness and creative thinking among students and involve them in international competitions in robotics, programming, and artificial intelligence.

​Initiatives of Year of Tolerance

In addition to its participation in international events, the Ministry of Education, represented by the Care and Activities Sector, has launched several initiatives in the Year of Tolerance including the 'Communication of Civilizations', 'Specialized Volunteerism' and 'Sanaa Competition' at the level of education councils and 'Culture Masterpiece' and 'Sanaa Forums' at the level of schools, zones and councils.

Through these initiatives, which targeted all students of the Emirati School, the spirit of tolerance in the Emirati community was highlighted and the Sanaa programs were implemented in many practical aspects including hospitality, Emirati heritage, morals of positive Emirati personality and respect for older people.

Several activities were held during these initiatives with the participation of students from different communities in the country. These activities were aimed at stressing the value of tolerance as an extension to the 'Think Zayed' and a sustainable institutional action aimed at deepening the values of tolerance and dialogue, accepting others' views, learning about different cultures and promoting the values of loyalty and belonging among students.

Ministry Initiatives :


  1. Initiative Name: Kids’ Diploma program

    1. Initiative Name: Kids’ Diploma program


    The Ministry of Education (MoE) has launched the Kids' Diploma program with the aim of bringing the competency of students between grade 1 and grade 7 to a higher level in Arabic language and mathematics as part of its skill and academic activities System for 2020. The program, which has attracted 500 students, aims to complete the development of students in the aforementioned subjects, enabling them to continue their education according to methodological bases and catch up on the cognitive and performance skills they have missed in the subjects of mathematics and Arabic language.

    The program simulates the concept of sustainable education and introduces the same sciences and knowledge received by students during regular study times in different forms in terms of time and space. Simultaneously, the smart learning system is adopted and a continuous evaluation system is prepared that monitors how far the students enrolled in the program benefit from the advanced educational options that the program provides according to an educational methodology aimed at bridging the students' knowledge gap in the two aforementioned subjects.

    2. 7,000 students participate in virtual summer enrichment camp


    The virtual summer enrichment camp has kicked off with the participation of more than 7,000 students. The participants had significant interaction, thanks to the camp’s various enrichment programs that bring students’ knowledge and life skills to higher levels in more than one field. The Ministry of Education (MoE) is carrying out the camp in co-operation and partnership with 50 federal and local government entities. The camp, which continues until August 13th, targets the Emirati School students in all educational stages and cycles.

    The camp aims at exploiting the summer vacation in helping students acquire life and creative skills and making use of UAE energies and creative talents with the aim of empowering the rest members of the society in various fields and trying new skills and arts by linking them with scientific, practical and educational concepts. The camp is also aimed at providing volunteering opportunities for students of all ages and nationalities in various specialized fields with the aim of engaging them in various educational initiatives. Besides, the camp is aimed at consolidating the social responsibility concept, engaging all parties in implementing programs, each according to its field of specialization, providing them with appropriate support to play their roles in an effective and more positive manner, creating a spirit of experience and learning among all members of society and enabling them to discover their talents and skills.

    The camp offers more than 580 workshops with the participation of 189 trainers in the various fields emulated by the camp including health, fitness, technology, science, language, rhetoric, culture, arts and life skills. In addition to the previous fields, the MoE is implementing 4 general streams tracks such as the certified cultural tour guide program, which enables members to obtain an approved license in co-operation with the Etihad Museum and the culture of tolerance stream to promote values ​​and coexistence in co-operation with the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence. Another stream is about child law culture titled Sword of Champion, while the last stream revolves around healthy food in co-operation with the Ministry of Health and Prevention.

    The Ministry of Education (MoE) has applied the distance learning system, targeting all students of UAE schools and higher education institutions. The system is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted education by relying on smart learning and providing digital platforms that offer valuable education materials and curricula for all students.

    The system is based on technology, smart learning and unique methods with similar roles, responsibilities and tasks. As a distinctive feature, the system keeps pace with modern education and harnesses technology and education, academic and electronic resources to serve students away from any spatial or temporal obstacles imposed by the new developments that may prevent the continuation of the normal learning process within classrooms.

    The distance learning system is the fruit of years of work to make quantum leaps in the education system under the directives of the wise leadership. It is an educational vision that seeks to make the Emirati School at the forefront, thanks to its diverse, distinctive and effective learning environments and modern practices that serve the elements of the educational process and provide a fertile environment for continuing life-long learning.

    4. 100 students participate in ‘Diplomacy Stream’


    As part of the National Ambassadors programme 'Estia'dad', as many as 100 students of government and private schools have participated in this year’s ‘Diplomacy Stream’. The students are joining a two-week virtual summer training program for 2020 where they will be trained by a group of Emirati School teachers who have been trained in the skills of diplomacy and Model United Nations.

    Specialized student clubs have been established to train the students in their schools and speakers from the Emirates Diplomatic Academy have also been hosted. The Ministry of Education has been implementing this program through various sessions that simulate basic diplomacy tools such as research, discourse-building and Model United Nations. In addition, a group of experts in this field have been recruited to provide the skillful content required for this stream. Since its launch, the program has attracted a large number of students in view of its importance for enabling students to acquire the skills necessary for university and future studies.

    THE BIGGEST food distribution campaign in the region

    In this context, the MoE has dedicated a wallet to collect donations, encourage its employees to take part in the campaign, and interact with the initiatives that aim to support humanitarian work. The MoE has done that through advertising on its internal and external channels and supporting the attachés, educational districts, schools, and universities to provide assistance to the needy to meet the “1 Billion Meals” Campaign. The MoE had also boosted the interaction channels with the campaign through social media websites, emails, screens, electronic devices, inspiring digital content, and other various means to achieve a comprehensive human movement, raise the level of interaction, achieve the best outcomes that would make the campaign succeed

    The tracks of the National Ambassadors Program are carried out in line with the plans, strategies, and directions of the UAE, which has devoted great attention to building and developing the capabilities of qualified, young human resources of the citizens.

    The tracks of the National Ambassadors Program this year consisted of six training programs, each of them lasted for two weeks under two main tracks, namely the Innovation Ambassadors Track and the Future Ambassadors Track. The Innovation Ambassadors Track was the first program created under the National Ambassadors Program in 2016. It provides students with the opportunity to attend theoretical and practical training at world-leading universities in the field of innovation, entrepreneurship, advanced sciences, technology, and innovative design. The Future Ambassadors Track, on the other hand, was created in 2017 to allow the students to acquire the knowledge and skills required in the future labor market in all priority cognitive areas, such as space sciences and renewable and sustainable energy, as well as learn about the admission mechanism and majors available in world-leading universities.
