The "General
Assembly the United Nations” called on Governments to observe annually, on the
5th of December the "International Volunteer Day" for economic
and social development, and urged them to take measures to increase awareness
of the importance of the contribution of volunteer service, and thus stimulate
more people from all walks of life to offer their services as volunteers at
home and abroad.
Volunteering in the
Emirates is of great importance both at the institutional level or individual
view due to the value of this humanitarian action in the development of the community,
alleviate the suffering of others and serious engagement in building and the development
process. With the opening of the “Dubai Volunteering Center” in 2012, which is the
first volunteer center of the Government of Dubai, the Centre takes care of management
of initiatives and events of voluntary bodies and various associations in the
Emirate of “Dubai”.
As for the educational
institutions, they also play a role, they not only provide the highest
certification which qualify students for jobs, but help in construction of the
student's personality, and enhance the sense of responsibility and leadership
to build a generation capable of leading the future phase. As his Excellency
Sheikh “Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan” Minister of Higher Education and
Scientific Research has stressed that the whole educational process is designed
to bring the student to the ambitious place which corresponds to the
aspirations of the cultural renaissance of the nation, through initiatives that
include programs and educational activities and increasing opportunities for
internships and volunteer work. In addition to
partnerships between educational institutions and the relevant authorities, the
“Dubai Press Club” has made volunteering open to students in the State, and it tours
various universities and colleges in the State, students also participate in
the first edition of "UAE Media Forum", which will be held on the 18th
of December 2013, to involve students in the labor market and provide them with
practical experience and skills before graduation.
The “United Nations”
launched the "International Volunteer Day" under the theme “Young
Global Active” to pay tribute to the contribution of youth in the field of
world peace and sustainable human development and in recognizing all volunteers'
commitment and applaud hundreds of millions of people who volunteer to make the
world a better place.
UAE institutions
worked under this theme, the “Emirates Foundation for Youth Development” urged to
foster a culture of giving in various parts of the State, through philanthropy
and corporate social responsibility. Launched through “Takato” and in
partnership with HCT in “Abu Dhabi”, a specialized training course entitled “The
Fundamentals of Volunteering” to cover cities across the State, the Foundation
in 2013 made a number of initiatives and campaigns, including “Clean up the
Desert Campaign” and “Clean the Sea Campaign” of harmful waste, and cleaning up
parks and public beaches to preserve its beauty in all the Emirates.
The "Red
Crescent" launched “Awn Award” for community service in order to promote
the spirit of volunteer work and instill the concept of social responsibility
in youth, in conjunction with the announcement about “sahem Program” which contributed
to the voluntary programs to promote community initiatives and attract
volunteers and university students to contribute to the humanitarian work of
the Red Crescent and achieve its mission locally, in addition to the importance
of " Sharjah Award for
Voluntary Work", which concentrates on promoting and stimulating volunteer
work in the State, and finding its base by educating young people since the
very beginning, to engage in volunteer work.
