Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, Vice Chancellor of the UAE University, Prof. Ghaleb Ali Alhadrami, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, inaugurated the 5th International Conference on Earth Observation for Global Changes (EOGC 2015) & the 7th International Conference on Geo-information Technologies for Natural Disaster Management (GiT4NDM 2015), on Tuesday, December 8th, 2015, at the Crescent Building of the University, in embodiment of the strategic vision of the University towards leadership and excellence in higher education and scientific research at the regional and global levels. The two conferences, which are held for three days, were organized by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences of the UAE University, in cooperation with the UAE Space Agency, Waterloo Institute for Disaster Management (WIDM), Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, and Al Yah Satellites Communications Company (Yahsat), with the participation of a group of experts and researchers in earth sciences and space research from around the world. At the beginning of the Conference, the attendees were given a presentation on Al Ain City and the UAE University, and their achievements at the regional and international levels, and on the role of the College of Science and its Department of Geography, as well as the UAE Space Agency, Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, and WIDM. His Excellency Prof. Ghaleb Ali Alhadrami conveyed the greetings and well-wishing of His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Chancellor of the University, for the participants, and wished them success in this Conference. He also conveyed the greetings of His Excellency Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, and his call for the participants to effectively communicate to reach the best scientific results and recommendations that enhance and develop the vision towards more innovation and excellence in the development of environmental and climate change research, and the transfer of knowledge of the latest space research, hoping that all of the faculty members and students of the University will benefit from experts and scientists involved in this global Conference. His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Nasser Al Ahbabi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency said: "I am delighted to be in the UAE University and participate in this global event important to the State, and the UAE announced the establishment of the UAE Space Agency in a historic and ambitious initiative, which will join the developed countries with large space projects, in order to promote space exploration efforts, and contribute to the global scientific space community, and the Agency will work to manage, organize, and coordinate the space sector in the UAE, which is witnessing steady growth. Prof. Saif Al Qaydi, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, honored the sponsors and the government and private scientific and official bodies in recognition of their participation in this global event, and the guests and specialists visited the exhibition accompanying the Conference and got introduced to the projects of companies, sponsoring institutions, organizations and exhibitors, and they also checked the UAE University students’ projects.
