The UAE University
and Al Ain Municipality announced the organization of the third International
Conference on Engineering Geophysics, during the period from the 11th to 15th
November 2015, during a press conference held by the two parties at the
business center of the Crescent Building of the University, on Sunday the 25th
of January 2015.
Engineer Suhail Al
Muhairi, Executive Director of Infrastructure and Assets of the Municipality
and Conference Higher Committee Chairman, presented at the beginning of the
conference an introduction about the importance of Engineering Geophysics and
the decision by the Department of Municipal Affairs in the Emirate of Abu
Dhabi, to bind all urban engineering projects in the Emirate to conduct a
geophysical study before construction, this decision is one of the outcomes of previous
Engineering Geophysics Conferences and their recommendations.
Dr. Ahmad Murad, Vice
Dean College of Science and Deputy Chairman of the Conference Higher Committee
Chairman, said that the Conference shall witness the participation of the (Society
of Exploration Geophysicists) in organizational aspects, since the number of its
members worldwide reaches more than 250,000 members, which promotes the scientific and
research status of the third edition of the Conference, noting the increase in
the number of working papers and presentations submitted, emphasizing the role
of UAE University in consolidating the values of research and innovation and
contribute effectively to sustainable environmental solutions for the society,
and he pointed to the launch of an international student research award directed
towards university students worldwide, in Engineering Geophysics in all its
branches.
Professor Haydar
Baker, Geology Professor at the College of Science, Chair of the Technical
Committee of the Conference, explained that the participants in the Conference
will cover the most important techniques used to detect caves and cavities and
ground geophysics uses in criminal investigation and detection of antiquities,
groundwater and soil studies and of modern counterpart methods in Engineering
Geophysics.
