UAE Participates in the “World Day for Safety and Health at Work”, and “Higher Education” conducts “Emergency Drill Plan”

The “United Arab Emirates” participates with the world’s celebration of the “World Day for Safety and Health at Work” on the (28th) of April which was marked in order with the aim to drive the international attention towards the size of the problem and how to promote it and create a culture of health and safety which can help to reduce the number of deaths and injuries related to the work place.

The “United Nations” assigned the (2014) theme as “Safety and Health in the Use of Chemicals at Work”, due to the importance of these materials for societies but they needs cautions while using them, the (UN) identified chemical materials as the key for a healthy easy modern life, the chemical materials include:  pesticides that work on enhancing food production and its quality, medicines, and cleaning product that help in preparing healthy living conditions. Chemical materials are of great importance because they are used in many industrial operations which produce products that help to enhance the global standards of living.  Meanwhile governments and business owners are still facing difficulties in dealing with the risks and dangers of exposure to these chemicals at workplaces, and reduce their emissions.

The “Abu Dhabi Environment Health and Safety Center” organizes many events in collaboration with some of the sectors involved in implementing the “Abu Dhabi” safety and health at work system, that aim to promote knowledge and spread the culture of safety and health at work and support the employees in how to deal with the risks of work to provide a safe and secure workplace for all.

“Abu Dhabi” witnessed recently several events such as the “Occupational Safety and Health Middle East” (OSHME) that presented the newest solutions and tools that assist in identifying the potential risks and  latest technology in the field of occupational safety and health which aims  to promote  and disseminate the culture of occupational safety and health at the workplace.

The “Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research” conducted recently   at its headquarters in “Abu Dhabi” in the “International Tower” the yearly emergency drill, that aims to provide the needed information for employees and train them on  how to handle emergencies in case they occur, the “Government Communication Department” at the Ministry stressed the importance of these drills, especially  that the successful evacuation of buildings depends largely on prompt and correct decisions of the occupants and their immediate actions during the first minutes of the incident
