In the context of
the visit of the UAE Foreign Minister to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, a
meeting of the joint committee between the UAE and Jordan was held on the 20th
and 21st of December, 2014,
with the participation of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific
Research, and a Memorandum of Understanding ( MOU) on the draft executive
program for agreement in the field of higher education and scientific research
was signed between the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research
of the two countries for the years (2015-2017).
This project came in
response to the desire of both parties to consolidate cultural relations, strengthen
brotherly ties, and cooperate between them in the field of higher education and
scientific research, in implementation of the cultural agreement signed between
them on 1/6/1977. The project aims that the two sides to encourage universities
and higher institutes to establish mutual relations and direct cooperation,
including the establishing academic agreements between them.
The project states that
the two sides exchange faculty visits to deliver lectures and participate in scientific
research of common interest, by agreeing on these visits through mutual letters,
as well as the mutual recognition of higher education institutions and
qualifications issued by them in accordance with the regulations and laws
applicable to both sides, and both sides to exchange experiences between their
universities in the field of technical education, technical studies, and academic
accreditation and quality, in addition to the exchange of visits by administrators
and students of the institutions of higher education under the programs agreed
upon by both of them.
The project also states
that the two sides encourage the organization of conferences, seminars, and
lectures on topics of common interest, the participation in conferences and
seminars held in both countries, and the exchange of books, publications, and research
in the various scientific, literary, and artistic fields, in addition to
special information about equivalency of certificates to take advantage of both
sides’ experiences in this area.
The project articles
included an item which states that Jordan is required to provide (50) seats for
UAE students annually with the same fees paid by the Jordanian student, (18) of
which were distributed to specialties of human medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and
engineering, and (32) seats for the study of other disciplines, in addition to
a number of seats in the field of graduate studies as per the available
capabilities.
For its part, the UAE
Government offers the Government of Jordan a number of scholarships during this
program for Jordanian students who obtain high school certificates, according
to the capacity and in line with the regulations of UAE universities.
