The first
“Partnership for Action on a Green Economy” (PAGE) Conference was concluded on Wednesday
(5/3/2014) , it was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh “Mohammed
bin Rashid Al Maktoum”, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of “Dubai”, in
the presence of more than (600) international, regional and national personalities.
This Conference is
the first of its kind hosted by the UAE in cooperation with the United Nations
Environment Program (UNEP), the International Labor Organization (ILO), the United Nations Industrial Development
Organization (UNIDO) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research
(UNITAR). The State adopts a
"green economy" as a path of sustainable development through the “National
Green Economy for Sustainable Development Strategy”, which came under the
"UAE vision 2021", based on the national program of action of His
Highness Sheikh “Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan”, UAE President.
The Conference on
the first day, highlighted international experiences in the field of
"green economy" in response to the “Rio+20 Declaration” which came 20
years after the first “Earth Summit” held in “Rio de Janeiro”, when countries
undertook to adjust climate changes, desertification and extinction, the
Conference also presented the progress made in the implementation of the
"green economy" path in the context of sustainable development and
poverty eradication, and the experiences of UAE in the green development field.
The conference
covered in its three sessions key issues such as: green and decent jobs; fiscal
policy and investments; green industrial policies; social inclusion and poverty
eradication; trade policies and opportunities; and metrics and indicators for
inclusive green economies. Also it addressed the decisions of the “Rio+20 Declaration” that
were adopted by governmental bodies and agencies of the “United Nations”, and
best practices in UAE in the transition to a "green economy" in
various economic sectors in the country, and the best practices of green axis
of growth and benefits of adopting "green economy" paths, in addition
to highlighting the strategic plans of the Government and federal and local
institutions.
Participating in the
event were ministers and high-level representatives from the “Seychelles”,
“Albania”, “Morocco”, “Mongolia”, “Finland”, and “Indonesia”. As well as Heads
of a number of international organizations and organizations of the “United
Nations”, the private sector, universities, research centers and regional
organizations.
