His Excellency
Sheikh “Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan” Minister of Higher Education and
Scientific Research emphasized the Ministry’s efforts to
maintain competitive positions achieved by the State’s higher education sector
in 2012, it is the first in the global index of the number of students in
higher education, third in enrolment in higher education from outside the State
and eighth in the students' movement into the State. The Minister said he will
pick a set of key indicators that will be focused on over the next (12) months,
to prompt the State to rank first according to the directives of the State
leadership.
The leadership gave
students of the "Emirates" financial and moral care and attention, as
education is, according to Sheikh “Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum”, Vice
President, Prime Minister and ruler of Dubai, a national priority in all
government strategies and budgets, as it is the best investment in the future
of the citizens which shall not be compromised, in building the knowledge
economy.
His Highness
directed the government to allocate (9.8) billion Dirhams to public education,
University and higher education programs, representing (21%) of the total
budget in 2014, to spend (6) billion Dirhams for improving student learning,
(3.8) billion Dirhams on university education, distributed to government universities,
excellence programs, academic excellence and research, in addition to the
training programs for graduates to be leaders in their fields and qualified to
meet the needs of the labor market. Those needs and requirements are being
studied to keep the accredited Ministry programs up to date, with (726) accredited
programs in the state.
This made the
"UAE" the fourth most attractive educational destination for students
seeking to study abroad and the most attractive educational destination in
emerging market economies, which has succeeded in attracting students from (125)
countries around the world, and (564) international institution,
"Emirates" has outranked "China", "Singapore" and
"Australia", noting that the "United States" ranked first, The
"United Kingdom" second, and "Canada" third. Not counting
the prestigious international universities which opened offices in the “Emirates”
and reached (37) universities, representing approximately (19%) branches of international
universities abroad.
