The
Ministry of Education organized a workshop for partners of SDG 4 "Education
2030" yesterday at the Teacher Training Institute in Ajman. The workshop
was attended by Her Excellency Fawzia Gharib, Assistant Undersecretary for the
School Operations Sector, Her Excellency Khulood Al Qassimi, Undersecretary of
the Ministry for the Supervision Sector, and a number of senior officials in
the UAE as well as representatives of 30 federal government agencies in
addition to the presence of a number of educational leaders and cadres from the
educational field.
The
workshop aims at informing partners of the Ministry of Education of the
contents of SDG 4 and the mechanisms of cooperation for achieving the goal and
developing effective initiatives that contribute to achieving the desired
results. The workshop also seeks to develop a roadmap for joint cooperation between
partners in implementing SDG 4 in three axes: Policy axis, initiatives,
monitoring and evaluation axis, and awareness and capacity building axis.
In
her speech, delivered on behalf of His Excellency Hussain Al Hammadi, Minister
of Education, HE Fawzia Gharib said that development has been a strategic
choice for the UAE since its establishment. Hence, the UAE joined world
countries in adopting the United Nations Development Agenda as part of the
sustainable development goals 2030.
HE
stressed that our ambition extends to making the UAE as an incubator for the
distinguished scientific efficiencies in achieving sustainable development
globally in the fields of science, technology, innovation, leadership and
governance, and to devote thinking, research and inquiry within the educational
system as well as benefiting from artificial intelligence systems for
developing the education in the country.
She
pointed out that the wise leadership in UAE considers that education as a top
priority, and that this vision reflects the achievements of the education
sector in quantity, quality and in line with the aspirations of the country. As
UAE is now confidently embarking on building a competitive knowledge economy by
2021.
HE
said: “UAE has recently launched a roadmap to 2071 that focuses on
sustainability and achievement in various vital areas such as health,
education, infrastructure, tourism, science and the environment. Also, our
country seeks to establish the first habitable human habitation in Mars, which
requires that we develop all frameworks to ensure the excellence of education
in our country and include all the elements of its leadership”.
In
turn, HE Dr. Faisal Al Bakri, head of the National Team for Education 2030,
gave a presentation on the 17 United Nations sustainable development goals
known as the Global Agenda. He indicated that SDG 4 is the focus of education
2030, and that in order to achieve this goal, the Ministry of Education has
formed a national team to achieve it in cooperation with a number of partners
at the national level.
HE
stressed that the goals of sustainable development are a national
responsibility shared by all our national institutions, and that we must
coordinate with each other in order to achieve all the objectives which seek to
respond to UAE future directions and horizons.
For
her part, Mahra Al Mutaiwee, vice president of the National Team for achieving
SDG 4 Education 2030, talked about the team mechanisms and its role in
preparing and monitoring reports and sending them to the competent
international bodies, as well as its role in maintaining coordination with all
partners to ensure the success of the educational system in its global
dimension.
The
participants were divided into three teams to discuss the challenges facing the
achievement of SDG 4 Education 2030. The workshop also discussed how to
formulate frameworks for effective coordination between the Ministry of
Education and all its partners.
