In its 10th edition, the Emirates Award for
Young Scientists has witnessed the launch of IQ tests for Distinguished
Students. The Award is organized in cooperation between the Emirates Talent Association
and the Ministry of Education at several schools in the UAE. The Tests are conducted
under the kind patronage of His Excellency Hussain bin Ibrahim Al
Hammadi and based on directives by His Excellency Lt. General Dhahi Khalfan
Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security, Chairman of the
Emirates Talent Association.
The tests are being offered as computer-based
tests for the first time, and 500 Emirati male and female students will take
those tests in all the Emirates, but their GPA must be no less than 95%.
The Tests are divided into 3 stages: The
Theoretical Adaptive Test; 500 students will take the computerized theoretical
test in certain subjects (mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology) at 19
testing centers at the schools of the Ministry of Education. At the end of the
first stage, based on their performance at the EMSAT, 40 students will qualify
for the Second Stage.
As for the Practical Test, 40 students who
excelled at the First Stage will qualify for a practical test in certain
subjects (chemistry, physics and biology), and they will get to answer applied
math problems. Then 40 students from this stage will qualify for the third and
last stage.
The Third Stage, which is the last stage as
well, is considered the Nucleus of Innovation, will comprise a case study as
each student will be trained at the beginning of this stage by specialists,
then he or she can conduct analysis, planning, design and preparation of the
(Nucleus of Innovation), and a case study by a certain deadline. Then each
student will showcase his or her project and discuss it with the specialized
panel.
The specialized panel will assess the projects
based on a scientific methodology, and 4 winners will qualify at this stage;
there will be one winner in each subject (mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology).
It is noteworthy that Emirates Award for Young
Scientists is considered one of the primary achievements of the Emirates Talent
Association, and it aims to encourage distinguished students, discover new
talented and innovative students and boost their creative abilities at the
level of the UAE. The scope of the Award is limited to scientific domains. This
edition of the Award coincides with the 10th Anniversary of the
Award as it was first launched in the year 2009. It was launched based on
national project for measuring capabilities, which was the first of its kind at
level of the State. The project resulted in discovering large numbers of
Emirati students who have high levels of intellectual and mental capabilities
that were discovered for the first time through this initiative which was
exclusively launched by the Emirates Talent Association, and it received kind
support from the businessman Mohamed Omar bin Haider. It has achieved great
success in attracting and encouraging distinguished students in many scientific
subjects such as physics, mathematics and biology. Moreover, it uncovered
distinguished students at the level of the UAE and sparked enthusiasm among
talented male and female students at the level of the UAE to boost and enhance
the environment of innovation.
