The Training and Professional Development Department of the Ministry of Education has launched the second phase of the "Leaders of Change " program, which is designed to train instructors from the field of education and targets interested teachers and administrators in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Nearly 1000 candidates from Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra applied, and all applicants were subject to personal interviews and acceptance exams. The results of the acceptance of 475 male and female teachers from all disciplines were announced, and the training workshops will start at the beginning of the next academic year - September 2018 in three training centers in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra.
The Ministry of Education had launched the program about a year ago in the presence of HE Hussain Al Hammadi, Minister of Education and completed the training of 501 male and female trainers from various disciplines. The second batch of 191 male and female teachers from different disciplines was also launched and the participants were trained. The Training and Professional Development Department of the Ministry aims from this program to prepare qualified trainers in the latest techniques to become ambassadors in their schools, entrusted with the tasks of training leadership in the UAE school.
The program is divided into 16 training workshops of 60 hours ranging from direct training, e-training to practical application in schools. The training is conducted in three training centers: the first is the Teachers Training Institute in Ajman, the second is in the Ministry’s Training and Professional Development Center in Ras Al Khaimah, and the third is in the training and development center in Khor Fakkan.
The training was carried out during the teachers' scholastic discharge days. In the first stage, the training was carried out by conducting a workshop every two weeks to ensure that the training did not conflict with the professional learning communities. The second phase of the training was followed by one workshop per week.
The accredited trainer's program aims at preparing trainers who are "change leaders", as they possess the necessary skills and knowledge that enables them to transfer their expertise and information to the teachers in a professional manner in line with international best practices, and the specificity of the training in the educational context. It also allows them to develop their knowledge, attitudes and skills that enable them to conduct training efficiently and effectively and raise the level of their ability to design a training system that includes the identification of training needs, the development of the objectives of training programs, the selection of training methods, and the provision and evaluation and improvement of training programs in a highly professional manner in line with the vision of the Ministry of Education.
The accredited trainer’s program was built in accordance with the latest international accreditation standards for the preparation and qualification of trainers. The program took into account three areas, which focused on providing participants with a range of knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for the trainer. It addresses the training of trainers in basic skills and practical methods of training, focusing on the definition of the basics of training, the formulation of goals, the development of presentation skills, and the strategies for implementation and evaluation of programs. The training program then trains the participants on managing the training process. Participants learn the rules of effective training and methods of motivation, management of the session and preparing the training location in addition to the return on investment in training and impact measurement. The program also focuses on training the participants on skills needed for preparing and designing training materials, in accordance with approved standards for designing and preparing materials.
A number of training specialists in the Ministry are responsible for training the teachers. The idea of this program originated from the need of the Ministry of Education for trainers with skills and training competencies, to train their colleagues from male and female teachers of all disciplines on the skills and modern methods in specialized training, or learning communities, or other programs offered by the Department of Training and Professional Development. This program was developed by training specialists qualified from the National Qualifications Authority, in order to employ their expertise in a practical and effective way along with the theoretical aspect.
Design of training content:
The training program was built and designed according to the international model ADDIE Model, which includes the following five stages: the first stage: Analysis; where the actual needs of the target audiences are analyzed and identified, while the second stage focuses on building the program plan, design plans and renewing the objectives of the program. The third stage concentrates on the development of the training materials according to the training needs. And the fourth stage is designed to provide the training for the participants in the form of direct training and training through the electronic training platform of the Ministry of Education. The fifth stage focuses on evaluating the training program and measuring the impact of training.
