The “Emirates Center
for Strategic Studies and Research” (ECSSR) is organizing on Tuesday
(18/3/2014), at its headquarters in “Abu Dhabi”, the “19th Annual
Conference” under the title : “Technology: Impacts, Challenges and the Future”,
in order to discuss the vital role of technology in the various political,
economic, cultural, media, educational, social, and sustainable development
areas.
The first sessions
of the conference will begin with a welcome speech by Dr. “Jamal Sanad
Al-Suwaidi”, Director General of the (ECSSR), followed by the keynote speech by
her Royal Highness Princess “Rym Al Ali” the founder of “Jordan Media
Institute” in the “Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan”.
The first session “The
Future of Technology: Trends and Opportunities” will be chaired by His
Excellency “Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim”, the Director General of
“Telecommunications Regulatory Authority” in the UAE, and a paper will be
presented under the title “The Prospects for Technological Innovation: a New
Level of Human Civilization”, by Professor “David Alan Grier”, Associate
Professor at “George Washington University”, and another paper under the title
“The Expectations of Technology and Upcoming Changes” by Professor “Linnar
Viik”, Associate Professor at “Information Technology College” in “Estonia”. Professor
“Philip Howard”, a Professor of Communication at the “University of Washington”,
and a professor in the School of Public Policy at the “Central European
University” in “Hungary”, will present a paper under the title: “Globalization
and Its Impacts on International Relations and the Global System”.
As for the second
session “Technology Challenges to Society and Culture”, it is chaired by Engineer
“Adel Al Kaf al-Hashemi”, Chairman of the “Royal Institute "BCS" of Information
Technology to the Middle East” in the UAE, while Professor “Alain Senteni”,
Dean of School of e-Education in “Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University”, will
present a paper entitled “The Role of New Technology in the Development of the
Learning and Teaching Methods”, Dr. “Mohammad Ayish” , Head of Mass
Communication Department in “American University of Sharjah” will present a
paper entitled “Modern Communication Technology and Media in the Arab world:
New Trends and Future Directions”, and Dr. “Finn Brunton”, Assistant Professor
of Media, Culture, and Communication in “NYU Steinhardt School of Culture,
Education, and Human Development”, will present a paper entitled “Technology
Protocol of Bitcoins: Opportunities and
Risks in the Long Term”.
The third session “
The Role of Technology in Sustainable Development”, which will be held on
Wednesday (19/3/2014), will be chaired by Dr. “Mohammed Al Mualla”, Khalifa
University’s Senior Vice President for Research and Development, and it
includes a paper entitled “New Technology and Its Impact on the Global Economy,
Business and Trade “Martin Ford” the President of “Acculant Technology, USA” ,
and a paper for Dr. “Alfonso Gambardella”, Professor of Corporate Management
and Dean of the PhD School of “Bocconi University” in “Italy”, under the title
“Technology and Work: Challenges and Opportunities of Human Resources and
Organizational Development”, while Dr. “James R. Fleming”, Professor of
Science, Technology and Society, and Researcher Visitor at “ Columbia
University”, will present a paper entitled “The Future of Technology and Its
Impact on the Environment”.
Regarding the fourth
session “The Technological Advancement and its Regional and Global Dimensions”,
which will be chaired by Dr. “Hamed
Alneyadi”, Knowledge Solution Director at “Knowledge Point” in “UAE”, and
Dr. “ Nayef AL-Rodhan”, a professor at
St. Antony's College at Oxford University, will present a paper entitled
“New Information Technology and Its Impact on Politics, Governance and Leadership”,
followed by a paper entitled “The Second Wave of Cyber-Attacks: a Source of
Growing Concern for Defense, Security and Law Enforcement”, by Dr. “Lisa
Nelson, GSPIA Assistant Professor, at “University of Pittsburg”, and Eng. “Tariq
Al Hawi”, Director of “ Computer Emergency Response Team”, will present a paper entitled “Smart Government: Basic
Infrastructure, Security and Risk Management”.
