Tadweer “Center of
Waste Management - Abu Dhabi” announced the names
of the winners of its Eco-Awareness Award for schools and universities during
the honoring ceremony, which was organized in conjunction with EcoWASTE 2015
during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. The Award was launched in September 2014,
in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research
and Abu Dhabi Education Council, in order to raise the level of eco-awareness
among students in Abu Dhabi, and encourage the population to maintain a clean
and safe environment for the future generations.
The Ministry’s
cooperation in the launch of the Award is due to its belief in its leading and
awareness role in all areas of the State, and to contribute in supporting the
overall development of Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. It also participated in the
ceremony of the declaration of winners to honor the winning students, in
addition to the attendance of school principals, university presidents,
representatives of the strategic partners of Abu Dhabi Education Council, Environment
Agency- Abu Dhabi, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development, and
the Abu Dhabi Media Company, represented by Al-Ittihad Newspaper, and members
of the arbitration committee, who have been all honored respectively.
The winners were
announced after the evaluation of their works that met the special conditions of
the Award, as 556 works from the schools of Abu Dhabi and 20 from public and
private universities were received. Such works included art models made from
waste, drawings, and photographs that reflect the positive behavior in public
hygiene and preservation of the environment. The evaluation was
conducted by a specialized committee of strategic partners who provided the
necessary support required for the success of this Award in its second edition,
and the grand total of awards for schools and universities reached 76 thousand Dirhams
distributed to 12 winners within the Award’s four categories, offered to the
top three winners in each category.
This year’s
competition attracted many participants who expressed their ideas and
creativity, and the Ministry since the launch of the Award has urged the
students in the public and private universities to participate in the Award, as
they are the most concerned with creativity and innovation, and made them aware
of the seriousness of the waste issue.
It is noteworthy
that Tadweer “Center of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi” seeks to consolidate the
methodological practices, such as reducing the production of waste at source,
reuse and recycling, encouraging active participation among the community members,
and promoting the concept of joint work with the environmental institutions and
stakeholders to reach a sustainable clean environment in the Emirate of Abu
Dhabi and maintain it.
