The Scientific
Research Department of the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific
Research visited the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science in
Copenhagen on January 29th, 2015, in order to discuss opportunities
for the development of relations between the two Ministries. Dr. Ahmed Alosi,
Research Program Manager, represented the UAE Ministry of Higher Education, and
Ms. Karin Rasmussen, Head of International Relations Section at the Agency for
Science, Innovation and Technology, and Mr. Sebastien Bigandt, Heasd of
International Relations Section at the Agency for Science, Innovation and
Technology, represented the Danish side.
Mr. Sebastien and
Ms. Sebastien made a presentation on the role of the Ministry in support of
research, development, and innovation, and explained the administrative
structure of the Ministry, the mechanism to provide support through the Agency for
Science, Innovation and Technology, which includes several specialized
departments, including the Danish National Research Foundation and the Danish National
Innovation Foundation.
They also discussed
the current areas of concern to the International Cooperation Office with
relation to Arctic research, and cooperation between the European Scandinavian
countries, as well as some countries such as South Korea, Brazil, Japan, China,
and the United States, through the establishment of innovation centers in such countries
for communication and follow-up on programs of cooperation between them.
Dr. Ahmed Alosi made
a presentation on the UAE Ministry's strategic plan in support of scientific
research in harmony with the UAE Vision 2021, and the directives of His Excellency
Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and
Scientific Research, in supporting and funding scientific research programs,
promoting cooperation and research between local and foreign universities,
strengthening the capacity of national researchers in the field of research and
innovation, and funding scientific research visits for graduate students and
faculty members.
It was agreed to
continue to discuss opportunities for cooperation in the field of organizing joint
meetings at the level of higher education institutions between the two
countries, facilitate scientific visits, cooperate in the provision of
scientific research proposals, and continue communication to identify and
develop aspects of future cooperation.
