Under the patronage
of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of
Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, the 8th
annual session of the World Future Energy Summit, the 3rd session of
the International Water Summit, and «EcoWASTE» were launched on January 19th,
2015, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, and will continue for four
days, with the participation of leaders, experts, and investors from more than
170 countries.
The World Future
Energy Summit 2015 is expected to witness the launch of new multibillion-dollar
projects in the field of clean development technologies in wind and solar
energy, water supply solutions and raising efficiency, and waste recycling in
many countries of the world.
This 8th
session is important because it comes after more than five years after choosing
Abu Dhabi to be an international base for the International Renewable Energy
Agency «IRENA». It also comes in light of an accelerated global trend to expand
reliance on the renewable energy, and this summit was a private initiative launched
by Abu Dhabi Government, and hosted by «MASDAR».
MASDAR Institute is scheduled
to announce, during the World Future Energy Summit, a package of technical
achievements and innovations and research projects that will contribute to the
achievement of the UAE strategic objectives at the level of energy and the development
of human capital and innovation. MASDAR Institute hosts the “Innovation
Platform” during the World Future Energy Summit, and organizes sessions on «Rapid
Vocational Guidance», as well as panel discussions and workshops supervised by
the faculty members and senior officials of the Institute.
A large number of
speakers and experts are participating in the 3rd session of the conference
of «International Water Summit 2015» hosted by «MASDAR», in partnership with Abu
Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority, and the event will discuss various
challenges and solutions in the arid areas, in terms of integrated management
of water resources, water desalination, renewable energy, and successful strategies
for the re-use of water, improving water production, water security issues, and
the link between the water and energy sectors.
The opening ceremony
was attended by His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of
Higher Education and Scientific Research, and a number of Their Highnesses,
Excellencies and senior officials. On the first day of the Summit, the winners of
the 7th edition of «Zayed Future Energy Prize» were honored within
the official opening ceremony of «Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week», in the
presence of a number of world leaders, as the Prize, which honors nine winners within
its five categories, is considered one of the most prestigious prizes in the
renewable energy and sustainability sector at the global level, whose total
prizes reach 4 million US Dollars.
