As the organization stressed that unsafe food is linked to the deaths of an estimated 2 million people annually, mostly children, and food containing harmful bacteria, viruses, parasites or chemicals is responsible for over 200 diseases ranging from diarrhea to cancer. And food safety is a shared responsibility and requires the participation of sectors other than the public health sector such as agriculture, trade, environment and tourism, and support of big agencies and international and regional organizations working in the areas of food, emergency aid, and education. The Federal National Council recently approved the draft federal law on food safety after amending and introducing a number of its articles and provisions, and is applicable to the territory of the State, including the free zones. And the draft law increased the penalties on the circulation of any stage of the food chain of foods that are harmful to health or spoiled, starting from the import, production, manufacturing, distribution, circulation, consumption and export, to ensure the safety and suitability of the food and its suitability for human consumption in the State, to reach the UAE vision in developing a high-level global system for food safety, helping effectively to provide food security for all residents and visitors of the State. The Ministry of Higher Education And Scientific Research works to promote health education in the Ministry through workshops, launching health campaigns to educate employees and encourage daily physical activity and health, as well as participating in health events organized by the State, in addition to sponsoring and supporting scientific conferences, medical research and other relevant studies.
