The "Varkey Foundation", on Monday, June 1st, 2015, called the teachers of the UAE to submit their applications of nomination for the "Global Teacher Prize 2016" through the website www.globalteacherprize.org, which will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai "Amir". In its second edition, the one- million- US Dollar Prize, referred to by many as the "Nobel Prize for Education", has become the largest of its kind in the world. It was launched by "Varkey Foundation" in recognition of the best teacher, based on the teacher’s performance and outstanding contributions in the field of education. The Prize also contributes to highlighting the noble role played by teachers in the community through exploring the thousands of exceptional stories that have contributed to making a quantum leap in the lives of young people. The list of nominees for the "Global Teacher Prize 2016" will be shortened to include the best 50 teachers, 10 of whom will be selected in February 2016, and the winner among the ten nominees will be selected by the "Global Teacher Prize Academy", which includes a number of dignitaries, such as Kevin Spacey, American Oscar- winning superstar; Wendy Kopp, CEO of "Teach for All", and Brett Wigdortz, Founder of "Teach First". The ten finalists will be invited to Dubai to attend the awards ceremony during the "Global Education and Skills Forum" in March 2016, where the winner will be announced directly, noting that nominations will be closed on October 10th, 2015. Nominations for the "Global Teacher Prize" are open to all teachers who teach children within the compulsory education stage, or between the ages of 5-18 years. The Prize also receives requests for participation from part time teachers like teachers of online courses. The Prize is also open to teachers in all types of schools, and is subject to the local laws in each country, and the general public can nominate teachers to win this Prize.
