The Smart Summer Classroom Program approved by the Ministry
of Education (MoE) for the academic year 2019-2020 came to emulate educational
requirements and updates as it enables all students, whether top achievers
interested in improving their final score or those who were not able to meet
the minimum success, to improve their score by up to 10 per cent, said H.E. Dr.
Hamad Al Yahyai, Assistant Undersecretary of Curricula and Assessment Sector at
the MoE.
Earlier, the MoE opened the door for parents and
students to submit grievances and comments as regards grade 4 to grade 12
scores with a view to enhancing transparency and credibility, he added,
stressing the importance for all exceptional and special cases not to hesitate
to submit their comments so as to be taken into consideration for fair
assessment in line with the ad hoc calculation rules.
Al Yahyai called on parents and students who have
score-related complaints to apply through the website announced by the MoE via
its social media accounts (http://parentsshare.moe.gov.ae/complain).
He pointed out that
the currently observed assessment criteria take the interest of students into
consideration and are based on assessment for learning as opposed to the
previously followed performance assessment, noting that smart classrooms will
be launched on July 19 and continue until August 13.
Al Yahyai explained
that all the decisions taken by the MoE in the past academic year 2019-2020 served
the interest of students and came in response to the current conditions and the
change in the learning process through the application of distance learning, noting
that the MoE came out in this context with specific initiatives that would support
students.
He mentioned that
the Smart Classroom Program is an initiative that serves the student’s interest
and seeks to empower students to access the targeted learning outputs and
change the assessment philosophy that has become more up-to-date and interested
in achieving learning outcomes by improving student’s performance without
paying attention to the score as the basic and final measure.
