ABU DHABI, 20 December 2016– H.E. Dr. Ahmad Belhoul, Minister of State for Higher Education Affairs today attended the Second Forum for Graduates of 2015/2016 scholarship programs, hosted by the Ministry of Education. The Forum was held for Emirati graduates who successfully completed their university studies abroad, and was attended by parents and Ministry officials to celebrate the students’ achievements.
The Forum saw the attendance of over 250 male and female Emirati graduates who had received university degrees ranging from Bachelors, Masters, Doctorate, and Honorary degrees from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, Germany, and France, among others. The Ministry also recognized 59 graduates for their excellent academic standing.
"The Ministry of Education is committed to supporting higher education opportunities both in the UAE and abroad. Our objective is to enable our students to develop the future skills needed to drive the next phase of economic growth in the UAE, allowing our country to successfully transition to a diverse and competitive knowledge-based economy," said His Excellency Dr. Ahmad Belhoul.
"I am very proud of our graduates for successfully completing their university studies abroad and returning to a home that believes in them and recognizes the important role they will play in shaping our country’s future," he added.
During his speech at the Forum, His Excellency highlighted how the scholarship experience goes beyond what university students learn in the classroom to the life lessons and self-development that comes from living in a new country. He also underscored the value of this experience in providing Emirati students the opportunity to exchange ideas with their peers and impart values of coexistence and tolerance that the UAE embodies. In addition, His Excellency shared key learnings from his own experience studying abroad and reminded graduates to continue pursuing their education through further academic study or through learning on the job.
The Forum also included a speech by Emirati student Afra’a Saif Dgheish Al Dhahri, presentations about students’ experiences abroad and a panel discussion
during which an official from the Ministry of Education provided input to questions from students and parents.
The Second Forum for Graduates was attended by several organizations, including TAWAZON, UAE Space Agency, and the National Petroleum Construction Company.
