The Mohamed Bin Zayed Award for Best GCC Teacher announced that it expanded
the scope of the countries participating in the award to include Egypt and Jordan,
which will be two guests of honor. The award also announced that expatriate
teachers in the participating countries who follow the education systems
adopted in these countries and meet the required conditions are allowed to
participate in the third edition of the award 2019-2020.
This came during a press conference held in Abu Dhabi to announce
the launch of the third edition of the award and open the door for registration
and participation to GCC teachers and those from Jordan and Egypt. The step came
as part of the award’s keenness on targeting as many teachers from the region
and the Arab world as possible in implementation of its educational philosophy,
which is based on supporting teachers and highlighting their status,
educational achievements, dedication and efforts to improve the quality of
education.
The press conference was attended by H.E. Hussain Al Hammadi,
Minister of Education and General Supervisor of the Award, H.E. Eng. Abdulrahman
Al Hammadi, Vice Chairman of the Higher Committee of the Award,
H.E Dr. Mohammed Ebrahim AL- Mualla Acting Under-Secretary For
Academic Affairs for Higher Education Mohammed Khalifa Al Nuaimi, Director of
the Office of Education Affairs at the Court of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi,
who is also member of the Higher Committee of the Award, Dr. Hamad Ahmed Al
Darmaki, Secretary General of the Award.
The award also announced that as part of its bid to improve its criteria,
it added some sub-criteria to its third edition including the communal and
professional leadership criterion, which is aimed at bolstering the teacher’s
role in encouraging students and colleagues to practice sports and participate
in sports activities. Under this criterion, teachers practice some sports and
encourage students to take part in such sports as swimming, Jiu Jitsu and other
sports, and students win tournaments as a result of teachers’ support.
Other
sub-criteria that were added under the main criterion of ‘Development and Sustainable
Learning’ include the teachers mastering various life skills such as analytical
thinking skills, leadership and management skills, principles of first aid and concepts
of dealing with disasters and fires.
