As many as 50 male and female students have completed their participation
in the Diplomatic Ambassadors' Camp, which was organized by the Ministry of
Education in collaboration with the Emirates Diplomatic Academy between December
16 and 20. During the camp, the students attended a series of workshops about
diplomatic work under the supervision of accredited diplomatic experts.
Based on its keenness on enriching the students’ experience in
diplomatic fields, the Ministry of Education last year introduced a ‘Diplomatic
Ambassadors Program’, which comes as part of ‘Our Ambassadors’ Initiative. To
this effect, the Ministry of Education concluded an agreement with the Emirates
Diplomatic Academy to make use of its expertise for sharpening students'
diplomatic skills.
As part of the agenda of the camp, a series of visits were
organized to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation to
learn more closely about the nature of diplomatic work through communicating
with the ministry’s staff and also have an idea about diplomatic protocols and
what qualities that people interested in joining the diplomatic corps should
have.
The students also visited The Founder’s Memorial in Abu Dhabi, which
is an extraordinary work of art and a memorial that sheds light on a great
symbol of unique approach and values. The visit was an exceptional opportunity
for students to learn more about the founding father’s achievements.
Furthermore, the students participated in a United Nations
simulation program, through which they learned about the mechanism of work in
the international organization as well as how issues of global concern are
discussed and how voting on international resolutions is conducted. This
experience helped the students gain advanced skills in dialogue management and
selection of issues for discussion.
A dedicated workshop was organized during the camp to familiarize
the students with the International Renewable Energy Organization (IRENA) in
Abu Dhabi. The Emirates Diplomatic Academy also organized a ‘Know Your World’
competition, which is scheduled to be applied to the diplomacy clubs in UAE
schools for students to be familiarized with sustainable development objectives.
The ministry revealed that the top five students participating in
the camp would be sent to the United States to complete the program and learn
about pioneering diplomatic experiences in its most prestigious diplomatic institutions
and centers.
