Parent’s Guide to Positive Behaviour Management in Early Childhood

Page Content

This guide supports parents in fostering positive behaviour in early childhood by adopting consistent, developmentally appropriate practices aligned with those used in educational settings. It is grounded in the principle that behaviour is a form of communication and that developing self-regulation and executive functions during early childhood is essential for effective learning and healthy personal development.

The guide highlights parents' central role in nurturing the UAE Child's Personality Attributes at home through positive role modelling, constructive language, clear and consistent boundaries, and supportive daily routines. It provides practical guidance on managing challenging behaviour using positive approaches such as reflective discussions, age-appropriate consequences, and positive reinforcement, while avoiding physical or psychological punishment.

It also addresses individual differences, support for children of determination, and the impact of environmental factors on behaviour. The guide emphasises strong home–school partnerships to ensure shared expectations and consistent support, and presents play as a key tool for developing executive functions and reinforcing positive behaviour during early childhood.
