Energy Prize has opened
submissions and nominations for the 2016 award on Tuesday January 20th,
2015; the prize accepts submissions across five categories: Large Corporation,
Small and Medium Enterprise, Non-Profit Organization and Global High Schools
and nominations for the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The award prize of
$4 million Dollars, aims to honor the winners of the leaders, inventors,
entrepreneurs, and students who have made outstanding and innovative solutions
to address the challenges of energy security, water and climate change.
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber,
Minister of State and director-general of the Prize said: “Innovation is an
essential step to convert the desirable ambitions and objectives to solutions
and practical applications to ensure energy security and sustainable
development ".
Dr. Al Jaber added:
“In line with the legacy of the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin
Sultan Al Nahyan, and with the vision of leadership to strengthen bridges, the
Zayed Future Energy Prize seeks to encourage clean energy innovators to find
sustainable solutions to the pressing global challenges facing the world today.
The Prize, in its
previous session, received a record number of entries for the awards with a
total of 1,111 submissions and nominations from 84 countries. Nine winners were
on the final list of the 2015 Prize and were honored at an awards ceremony
during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
It is noteworthy
that in seven years, winners and finalists of the Prize have touched the lives
of over 150 million people around the world, by generating 190,000 MWh of
electricity from renewables, reducing 800 million tons of carbon emissions,
providing safe drinking water to 6 million people and introduced 350,000 people
to sustainable solutions and energy management best practices.
