The Zayed
International Foundation for the Environment and the United Nations Environment
Assembly (UNEA) signed an agreement on the implementation of an educational
program in the area of sustainable development, during their participation in
the first session of the United Nations Association of the United Nations
Environment Program in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. The UAE delegation headed by his
Excellency Dr. Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water, in
the presence of more than 1,200 participants, 100 ministers, and heads of
international organizations.
Through this new
partnership the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment has
allocated 100,000 Dollars to the production, development and adaptation of the
Global Green Economy Curriculum Sourcebook with the aim of providing guidance, and
a framework curriculum for the graduate program at the Master's level in green
economy, in coordination with the curricula of the United Nations Environment
Program and the relevant scientific references on the subject, the sourcebook will provide knowledge and
accurate information related to green economy and sustainable development for
scholars and academics, and help them to develop new and innovative programs.
Dr. Meshgan Al Awar,
Secretary General of the Zayed International Prize for the Environment, during
the discussion of the first session of the Assembly pointed
out the relevance and impact of sustainable development principles in education
and manpower sectors in society, which is accelerating in recent years, but
much remains to be offered, for example, the efforts to universities and higher
education institutions must be increased.
From this concept,
the new partnership of the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment
in the UAE and the United Nations Environment Program came about, to promote
the role of education and knowledge in economic choices that affect changing
negative consumer habits in societies, and the replacement of means of
production and sustainable use, and this partnership will contribute to the
production, writing and development of the scientific method and a special
guide on the green economy, in order to achieve sustainable development, commensurate with the
green strategy for UAE, under the slogan-A Green Economy For Sustainable
Development-.
Dr. Mohammed A. Bin
Fahad, Chairman of the Zayed International
Foundation for the Environment, announced the launch of the seventh edition of
the Zayed International Prize for the Environment and that the Foundation and United
Nations Environment Program will organize a Conference on Sustainable Lifestyles in mid-October
2014 in Dubai, which aims to confirm the sustainability of life, and influence of
individual behavior of consumers in this regard, and to identify the factors
that influence consumer behavior, it will be highly attended by all relevant categories on green
economy and sustainable development from students, experts, government
officials and academics on the regional and global level.
