Under the patronage
of Sheikh “Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan”, Minister of Higher Education and
Scientific Research, "Forum on Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) For
Infrastructure Development – Opportunities and Challenges Facing the U.A.E. and
GCC Countries _", was opened by his Excellency Dr. “Abdullah Bilhaif Al
Nuaim” Ministry of Public Works yesterday Wednesday, in “Abu Dhabi” in
cooperation with “Monash University” in “Australia”.
The Forum discusses
the appropriateness of applying the concept of Public-Private Partnership (PPP)
in the U.A.E. and the Gulf region, and the possibility of applying successful
experiences already implemented in other countries. It also discusses the
feasibility of achieving this kind of partnership, in addition to obstacles
that can stand in the way of the application of this concept, whether they are social,
political, economic, legal or environmental barriers. Also how to develop
relevant laws and directives, contracting methods to develop effective and
efficient infrastructure through such partnerships.
The Forum was held
at the “Intercontinental Hotel Abu Dhabi”, where policymakers and executives
from all government sectors, such as banking, transport, health, education,
construction, and others will meet to engage in a dialogue with experts in
various aspects of Public-Private Partnerships, such as “John Brumby”, Vice
Chancellor’s Professorial Fellow to the Melbourne and Monash Universities, Deputy Chair of Industry Super Australia, Professor Graeme
Hodge,Writer and Professor of Law and Director of the “Centre for Regulatory
Studies” at “Monash University”, Professor “Vivek Chaudhri” Associate at the “Department
of Management” at “Monash University”. Professor “Ian McLoughlin”, writer and Professor
of Management at Monash University, Professor “Amrik Sohal” writer and Professor
in the “Department of Management”, “Faculty of Business and Economics” at “Monash
University” , Professor “Brian Fildes” A researcher and Past President of the
Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine in USA, and “Stephen
Watson” Head of Service – Public Private Partnership Advisory.
