The "Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research” (ECSSR) recently published the report entitled "Evaluation of the Arab and international studies and research centers 2014-2015 ".
The Centre based its assessment process on five main sets of standards with the first group associated to the institution itself, its resources and the size of its budget, the second group focuses on the nature of the work and role of the institution, the third group relates to the ability of the institution to support the decision-making process, and fourth group measure the ability of the institution to contribute effectively academically, while the fifth group monitors efficiency of the institution in communicating with the community. In light of these criteria the 10 best research centers in the Arab world were chosen, and they are respectively; Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies in the Arab Republic of Egypt, the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies in Saudi Arabia, the Middle Eastern Studies Center in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Royal Institute for Strategic Studies in the Kingdom of Morocco, Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government in the UAE, the Gulf & Arabian Peninsula Studies Centre in Kuwait, Centre for Lebanese Studies in the Lebanese Republic, Issa Cultural Center of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Hedaya Center in the UAE, and the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies in the Arab Republic of Egypt. The report also chose the best top 20 research centers in the world from 219 strategic studies centers in 25 countries with the highest number of research centers, the first ten were respectively; Brookings Institute in the United States, the Royal Institute of International Affairs "Chatham House" in the United Kingdom, the Center for Strategic and International Studies in the United States, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute in Sweden, RAND Corporation in the United States, the German Institute for International and Security Affairs in Germany, the Council on Foreign Relations in the United States, and the International Institute for Strategic Studies in the United Kingdom, and the Japan Institute of international affairs in Japan, and Getúlio Vargas Foundation in Brazil. Dr. Jamal Sanad Al-Suwaidi, Director General of the Centre said that the issuance of this report for the third consecutive year comes in the Centre's scientific efforts through research and survey on the scientific criteria to classify centers to come out with a thorough and balanced report, stressing the importance of issuing such reports, which is evident, given that most of the world now relies on thought, science and knowledge for effective solutions to the various challenges faced, so that increased attention is given to the role of centers of study and research in support of decision making strategies and to propose policies.
