
A delegation of graduate
students at Harvard Kennedy School of Government, which consists of 30
students, concluded their one-week visit to the UAE, which comes as part
of the "Emirates Leadership
Initiative", during which the delegation participated with the UAE
scholarship students in the World Future Energy Summit held in Abu Dhabi, and
met with a number of senior officials and experts in the field of energy and
environment in the ministries and organizations concerned with clean and
sustainable energy.
The delegation and the
UAE Scholarship students went on academic tours that focused on studying energy
and environmental issues, and identifying the efforts and leading role of the
UAE in the field of energy and environment. The following six UAE students
participated in the program: Tariq Hilal, Khaled Al Ketbi, Anoud Al Lozi, Amna
Taher, Al Anoud Ben Tilley, and Mohammed Idris.
His Excellency Sheikh
Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth, and Community
Development, met the university student delegation before leaving the country,
and stressed that those students who represent their countries will form an
important part of their countries’ leadership in the future. His Excellency
said that the success of this visit is evidence of the success of the Emirates
Leadership Initiative launched by his Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin
Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the
Armed Forces, who believes in the importance of education and the urgent need
to develop and build educated leaders in our countries.
His Excellency Yousef Al
Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the United States, affirmed the UAE Government's
commitment to investing in education and training emerging leaders, and that
the main objective of the program is the development of leadership skills
through seminars sponsored by the Harvard Kennedy School for Emirati officials
in the public sector.
"Emirates Leadership Initiative"
was launched during 2014, and lasts for five years, in order to strengthen
relations between the countries and peoples of the Middle East, through a
series of research and training new leaders and executives through the scholarship
programs. The delegation’s first visit is in implementation of the Initiative
which provides scholarships to ten students each year, who are selected from
the UAE and other countries of the Middle East, and offers new opportunities to
learn from the best faculty members in the world at Harvard Kennedy School. It
also opens the door for students to see the efforts of UAE and the region in
encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship.
