Emirati newspapers have focused
the spotlighton the Smart Application Award of the Ministry of Higher Education
and Scientific Research since the beginning of its launch on June 20, under the
patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education
and Scientific Research.Sheikh Hamdanestablishedthe Award in line with the
vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice
President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the Smart Government.
Under the headline Higher
Education Launches Award For Smart Applications the local Arabic newspaper,
“Al Imarat Al Yawm”, highlighted the value of the Awardof AED198,000 –
AED100,000 for first,AED50,000 for second, and AED30,000 for third place. In
addition, supervisory staff of winning teams receive AED10,000, AED 5,000
AED3,000 plus the Ministry plaque, respectively.The
winner of the Smart Applications Award will be eligible toparticipatein the for
best government service via mobile phone competition for university students at
a valueof one million dirhams.
In a detailed report
entitled,Higher EducationProvides Services According to International
Standards,“Al Bayan” newspaper spoke about the objectives of the award motivating
and encouraging universities and students to provide creative and innovative solutions
through smart phone applications. The article also focused on the three
criteria for participation in the award which were - efficiency and
effectiveness, ease of use and creativity/innovation.
For its part, “Al Khaleej"
concentrated on the award categories, which are divided into two categories:
Distinctive Website Services(HTML 5) and Technical Solutions via SMS. The evaluation
criteria of smart applications are efficiency and effectiveness, ease of use,
creativity and innovation.Interested students from the UAEU and Khalifa
Universitycan visit Ministry’s website to access the submission process and
schedule.
