The UAE Cabinet, during its meeting chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, on Sunday, June 21st, 2015, approved the national strategy for the establishment and strengthening of research and development centers in the health sector, in cooperation with academic institutions in the country, in order to unite the efforts, create a national system of research at the State level, and establish health research centers aimed at the development, support, and publication of neutral scientific researches necessary for understanding and absorbing the health problems in the UAE society and finding solutions. The strategy, which is applied during the year 2015-2017, aims to promote the level of the State globally in the field of health and scientific research, develop systems, policies, and legislations for health research according to the best global practices and standards, and build an attractive and supportive environment for the national and global health research, under qualified cadres, in addition to supporting competitive health research programs of high quality at the national and global levels, conversion of viable health research results for the development of the health system, improving health services in the State, building national, regional, and international partnerships in the field of health research, and strengthening the role of community in the area of health research. The outcomes of the national strategy for establishing and strengthening research and development centers in the medical sector will contribute in laying the foundations and rules of scientific research ethics in the field of health in the State, supporting and encouraging the national health research by the ministries and local health authorities to encourage researchers and research, and developing a unified system for registration of all health researches in reference, and limitation of published research, researchers, and research centers in the State. On the other hand, the Council adopted the initiative to promote awareness of healthy lifestyles; one of the government innovation laboratory outputs aimed at increasing community awareness of the importance of physical activity and eating healthy food, not using tobacco, building community capabilities to adopt healthy lifestyles and equip them with the necessary skills, striving to create a supportive environment for health "environmental and legislative ", and the participation of the community and civil society institutions in health promotion programs. The initiative is overseen by the Ministry of Health, with the participation of a number of federal institutions, local health agencies, economic departments, higher education institutions, sports councils, municipalities, and the private sector, according to a timeframe for the initiative that extends for three years.
