The UAE recently launched the “Robots for Good” Award worth
3.67 million Dirhams equivalent to one million Dollars, at the end of the events
of the “Global Agenda Council 2014” in “Dubai”, and upon the directives of his Highness
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler
of Dubai, the UAE Government announced the establishment of an advisory Artificial
Intelligence and Robotics Council in cooperation with the “World Economic
Forum” featuring the best minds and universities in the world so that the UAE
becomes the first platform for innovation in robotics and artificial
intelligence.
The “Robots for
Good” Award aims to encourage research and applications of innovative
solutions, to address challenges in three areas: health, education and social
services, and is inspired by the UAE “Drones for Good” Award, which is worth
one million Dollars.
The Award will be
opened for submission for all from all over the world in February, 2015, at the
Government Summit in Dubai; winning submissions will provide real services that
improve people’s lives, ranging from hardware to software intelligence and artificial
agents.
Members of the
Council will form the Judging Committee, the founding members of the Council comprise leading researchers
and innovators from the world’s best universities, companies and organizations,
including University of California Berkley, Carnegie Mellon University, KAIST,
University of Southampton, American University of Beirut, Climate Bridge
Ventures, Universal Robotics, Scuola Superiore, Sant’Anna, Khalifa University,
Machine Intelligence Research Institute, University of Lisbon, and many others.
The Council will
meet annually to pursue a wide range of other initiatives that include
educational conferences, the use of robotics in UAE schools and universities,
and leading policies on the humanitarian and positive uses of robotics and
artificial intelligence.
It should be noted
that the “Global Agenda Council” Summit is a universal platform that brings
together the most influential personalities in the world of experts, thinkers
and decision makers, to activate global dialogue on common challenges facing the
world in various fields such as
energy and food security challenges, and strategic issues in education and
health, and several other issues currently facing the world.
