"Justice is the way to democracy
and any diminution of it is against democracy, and of course justice will not
satisfy everyone but it will satisfy the majority."
"Our door is open and always will
be, and we hope God makes us always an ally to all the oppressed. A complainant
can see me at any time, and convey to me his grievance. "
"The openness that must prevail
among us and the constructive dialogue purifies innovative experiences and
suggested opinions from impurities."
That is what Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan
Al-Nahyan said. And because democracy is a culture and behavior, accomplished by practice and dialogue, and
accepting criticism, the "Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific
Research" has followed up on the views and problems of students through the
social networking site of the Ministry, which is not only a platform for
dissemination of knowledge and an area where minds communicate, but a platform
for all stakeholders in the institutional educational process and its
constraints, and for the resolution of
issues and problems to achieve a distinct and stable learning environment.
In a grievance submitted by several
students to the Ministry's social networking site, they explained that their
university took a decision to expel them. The Ministry followed up this issue
with the university administration, who submitted a report clarifying that the
decision of expelling two students from the University was for leaking
examination questions and selling them for money, and failing of 7 students in
all courses in the second semester of the academic year 2012-2013 whose
participation was proven in the process of leaking the exams, whether to buy or
distribute or utilize them without paying. According to the report, this
application of disciplinary rules is without
discrimination or exception and which is
proportional to the size of the infringement and in accordance with the
regulations of the University which were published in its documentation,
notably in the University Student Booklet.
Vice President of the University ordered
the formation of a Commission of inquiry to investigate the incident, who
called the professors of the courses concerned, to ensure that proper
procedures were followed in the preparation of examinations and security
procedures and to identify those cases. And instructions were given to the Information
Technology Department to take measures to ensure safe access to the Internet
and to prevent any unauthorized entry in the future.
Having caught a Pharmacy college student
during the Clinical Chemistry exam in possession of a paper with the University logo, the paper
turned out to have the exam questions, and another student was caught cheating
using a mobile phone during the exam of the Dosing course, the Deanship
immediately canceled the leaked exam questions and repeated the exams of both courses. This
mechanism and these rules reinforce confidence in the educational institutions in the State,
and its reputation of law enforcing and following international standards,
making the Emirates the largest international education center, with (37)
branches of prestigious universities, representing approximately (19%) of
university branches abroad.
