His Excellency Humaid Mohammad Al Qutami, Minister of Education, praised the efforts of the team of the Ministry of Higher Education And Scientific Research which participated in the process of unification of the academic calendar, and made a sincere effort and participated in the resolution issued by the Ministry of Education concerning the unification of the academic calendar and the admission and registration for the next academic year 2014/2015, during the recent meeting of the Education Coordination and Integration Council.

The participation of the Ministry of Higher Education And Scientific Research in this resolution is in line with its policy and upon the directives of the Minister his Excellency Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan to achieve global competitiveness; the Ministry is keen on achieving leading positions in global assessment indicators, to achieve the objectives of the national agenda and the main objective of the UAE Vision 2021, which is to provide a first-class education with empowerment of citizens with the tools of the future as appropriate with the aspirations of UAE in achieving advanced rakings internationally.

The adoption of the recent school calendar came under the direction of the Ministerial Council for Services, in the light of the need for unification of holidays and weekdays between general and higher education, to achieve family stability, the adoption of the resolution came in the context of discussions and consultations held in intensive meetings between the specialized commissions, officials and specialists in the education boards and bodies, where they stressed the importance of the continuing unification of vacations, where 10 days were added to the school year, in line with global rates, at the same time, in line with international foreign curricula associated with the number of hours of instruction, in turn, the first semester holiday had been cut to be two weeks rather than three weeks, so the total school days in the first semester are 74 days and 60 days in the second semester, while in the third and final semester 55 days, including emergency leave and examination days.

His Excellency Humaid Al Qutami reiterated that the Council is a unique case of concerted efforts and opens unlimited horizons for fruitful cooperation between all the parties of the educational process and those responsible for it, the policies and objectives of the Council represent a common vision for the development of the quality of public and private education. They also discussed a range of topics and important initiatives on the agenda of the Council.
