The Ministry of Higher Education announced the enforcement of the decision to grant a scholarship to the first integrated group of students with special needs to study abroad in universities specialized in teaching such students. According to a ministry’s report, Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, requested an integrated study to identify the selected universities and the national students with special needs who will be granted a scholarship this year.
Fatima Al-Zaabi, Director of the Scholarships and Cultural Relations Department, said to “UAE Today” that the names of the special-needs scholarship students will be announced this month after the completion of the study. The strategic plan of the Ministry this year targeted this category “to give them their full rights as any other students”. She explained that parents and students were advised to apply for academic scholarships abroad, as the scholarship students will be identified after the completion of screening. She said that the number of applicants this year was very large, and noted that brilliant students with hearing and vision disabilities, who are capable of continuing their education, will be selected.
The Ministry of Education conducted interviews to assess their capacities and their abilities to blend in. It contacted universities in the USA and Australia after verifying their capacity to accommodate this category and their ability to provide advanced capabilities and techniques to teach such special-needs students and integrate them in the scientific and academic communities
