The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Football Team won the annual Football Sevens Championship for over 40 years teams organized by the Sports Association for Government Departments. The team won such championship after defeating the Capital Police Football Team 1 – 0, and the goal was scored by Abu Bakr Eliwa after a long match.
This is the first golden title obtained by the team in a championship consisting of 16 teams. This is the twelfth championship to be held by the directives issued by H.E. Saif Bin Ahmed Al-Hamili, Chairman of Sports Association for Government Departments and under the supervision of H.E. Khalifa Nasser Al Suwaidi, Vice Chairman of Sports Association for Government Departments Capital Police Football Team occupied the second position, while the Police External Areas Department Football Team occupied the third position after defeating UAE Navy Football Team 5-1 in the match determining the third and fourth positions.
At the end of the eventful sport day, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Football Team was crowned with the Championship Golden Trophy which was received by the Team Supervisor, Dr. Saeed Hamad Saeed Al Hassani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, from H.E. Ahmed Al-Mazroui, Secretary General; Naif Salem Al Kathiri, Assistant Secretary general, Head of Marketing Committee; Khalid Alsayari, Board Member; and Mohamed Al Gohari, Financial and Executive Director of the Association.
The Association of Corporations submitted the Souvenir Shield to the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research; and also shared Souvenir Shields with the teams occupying the first four positions in the Championship. The Football Team, representing the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, included Dr. Saeed Hamad Al Hassani, Alaa Baiyoumi, Hatem Mahdi, Baini Jean, Al Hassan Alawi, Omar Khaled Al Amoudi, Mohamed Ateeq Massoud, Mohamed Gamal, Abu Bakr Jerma, Majed Mohamed Saad, Abdullah Khaled Al Hosny, Youssef Eflag and Haitham Al Yaacoubi.
