A poll, conducted by
the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for the Emirati youth
followers of its social networking site "Facebook " about their use
of the Internet and social networking pages and the importance of these sites
in their lives, which reflected the positive uses that serve their aspirations
for science and knowledge, saving effort
and time by exploiting modern technology.
“The Emirates Center
for Strategic Studies and Research” recently issued a report asserting keenness
of the U.A.E., which is a model of an open society to other cultures and
civilizations, and is interactive with the applications and the results of the
communications and information revolution, including social media, asserted its
keenness on supporting the "responsible media" which promotes
positive values, maintains social peace and contributes to development.
The report said that
while the wise leadership of the State encourages interaction with all aspects
of modernization and development, including in the area of communication and
information, it warns of the negative effects that must addressed and dealt
with, so as not to become a tool threatening the security and stability of
societies.
In addition to the
health effects on individuals, which many studies and research warned of the need
to be cautious in using the Internet for hours, and the dangers of so-called
Internet addiction, and recently a special section opened for the treatment of
Internet addiction in the Medical Center in Radford in Pennsylvania in the
United States.
In a study conducted
by “Ipsos” on Emirati Internet usage it showed that (72%) of Internet users in
the UAE are men, while (28%) are women. And (71%) are in the (20-40 years) age
group. While viewing of social networking sites in the sample of women reached
(105.383) times, as for the men it was (547.594) times.
The "Ministry
of Higher Education and Scientific Research" survey on their Facebook page to see trends of
Emirati students on the use those sites, they confirmed that browsing the
Internet is indispensable whether we like it or not.
“Mohammad Al Najadi”
said that "the Internet has become a necessity of life, it provides us
with local news so we can follow the latest developments in the world, moment
by moment, and “YouTube” and other educational
and documentary video libraries make everything in your hands, through which you
communicate with the world."
"Anas
Samir" finds that “Internet addiction has become the norm, due to the fact
that management of all life’s affairs had become through the Internet, such as
shopping, social networking and management of bank accounts, as well as to
follow the news”.
And "Shima Al
Qeeq says that “the Internet has become indispensable, it is difficult that a
day passes without using it, it is the fastest means of communication in the
world”.
"Ala
Yousef" sees that “the Internet became an imposing presence with the indication
that all mobile phones are equipped with high technologies that cannot be used
without the Internet, adding that smartphone companies consider equipping
high-tech Smartphone with applications for Internet use one of the main reasons
for attracting customers to its handsets
