The UAE flag was
hoisted by the Emirates Scout Association in the first forum for rover scouts
of Egyptian and Arab universities, which was hosted by Mansoura University in
Egypt, and held at the permanent student camp in Gamasa summer resort during
the period from 14th to 21st of August, and with the
participation of 350 rover scouts representing twenty Egyptian and Arab universities,
including the University of Sharjah.
The rover scouts of
University of Sharjah, headed by Dr. Hisham Abdel Halim Mahmoud, the head of
student activities at the University of Sharjah, and supervisor of scouts, who
praised in the opening speech the active participation of the delegation of UAE
rover scouts, stressing the importance of these posts in the consolidation of brotherhood
and friendship among Arab youth in general and rover scouts in particular, and this
participating is considered as a reinforcement of the Arab conscious
participation, and represented a significant role in this forum.
The leader Hisham
Abdel Salam Moussa, head of the forum and president of the Egyptian Air Scout
Association in Dakahlia, emphasized that such forums support the exchange of
experiences and programs between the Arab rover scouts in the area of community
service and development projects, and develops the feelings of loyalty to the
Arab world, and they also offer the opportunity to get to know the societal
problems, and how to contribute to their solution.
The forum included a
number of activities for community service and development, which included the
medical and veterinary convoy to Alsalsool village in Dakahlia Province, with
the participation of two students from each participating university, in
addition to a team of doctors from the Faculty of Medicine at Mansoura University
in different disciplines, and doctors from the Faculty of Veterinary, in order to
perform veterinary detection on livestock in the region, and treatment was for
free.
On the other hand, the
implemented projects included the grassing of football stadium at the camp with
Industrial grass, which was done by rover scouts, under the technical supervision
of specialized engineers, as well as the implementation of the project for the
cultivation of fruit trees in the streets of the coastal city of Gamasa, such
as olive trees and pomegranates. The rover scouts also participated in a blood
donation campaign to attract the largest number of vacationers and make them
aware of the importance of donating blood. The participants also took part in
painting the iron fence of the camp.
The activities of
the camp also included recreational activities, such as a night folklore concert
held in the city center amid the vacationers, during which the rover scouts of
the participating universities presented distinguished parts, with the
participation of the audience, and identified the objectives and principles of
the scout movement. The universities also presented sections that highlight the
folk art heritage of Egyptians and Arabs with the folk fashion.
It is noteworthy
that rover scouts of University of Sharjah raised the UAE flag at the
Fourteenth World Scout Moot, which was hosted in Ottawa, the capital city of
Canada, in August 2013
