The world celebrates
on the seventh day of December, the "International Civil Aviation
Day", that was proclaimed by the "United Nations General Assembly” in
1996, corresponding to the memory of the signing of the “Convention on International Civil Aviation”, signed
in Chicago in 1944.
The UAE won last
October a seat on the Council of the “International Civil Aviation Organization”,
where it got (158) votes, in the elections that were held at the headquarters
of the Organization, compared to the total (146) votes at the previous session,
reflecting the volume of Arab and international support enjoyed by this
organization.
The UAE membership
in the Council allows participation in the international decision-making of
civil aviation, and in planning orientations and milestones for the coming
years for the benefit of the aviation sector, at the local, Arab and
international levels.
The Council of the “International
Civil Aviation Organization” has (36) seats, delegates are elected by the
General Assembly representing (191) countries. The UAE has joined the "International
Civil Aviation Organization" in 1972, and won a seat on the Council in
2007, and won for the second time in 2010. The evolution of the sector is
considered as part of the overall progress and development system which
affected all sectors in the State.
The “Emirates
Airlines” has got the title of "best airline in the world" in the “SkyTrax”
ranking for the "best (100) airlines around the world in 2013”. And is
seeking to raise the proportion of Emiratisation to triple what it is now by
2018.
In support of the localization
strategy and in line with the “Vision 2021”, the “Ministry of Higher Education
and Scientific Research”, to support the local labor market with skills and
experience to achieve this goal, accredited in September a diploma and higher
diploma in Aviation Management " at the "Emirates
Aviation College", especially since the aviation industry has over (250
000) jobs, with expectations to grow (30%) over the next five years because of
the expansion of the fleets of national carriers, and expansions of
infrastructure in the air transport sector, including airports and other
facilities.
