Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah, the 2nd International Sharjah Conference, under the title "New trends in learning and teaching Arabic language", will be held from (2 – 3) March 2016. The Conference, organized by the Educational Center for the Arabic Language in the Gulf States, in cooperation with the Department of Arabic Language and Literature of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Sharjah, aims to develop the strategies for teaching Arabic language in schools and universities, improve the policies and means of evaluation of students’ performance, keep abreast of global developments, take advantage of the new programs and technologies in the field of Arabic language teaching and learning, and have access to the past experiences in teaching Arabic language. The research papers presented at the Conference, which announced that November 15th, 2015 is the deadline for receipt of abstracts, focus on several axes, including; criteria for choosing Arabic language teachers and their preparation and training, new trends and strategies in teaching Arabic language to its native and non-native speakers, modern technology used in teaching Arabic, the development of means of evaluation and linking them to the learning outcomes in general education and university education, and the development of the Arabic language curricula in light of modern approaches and the needs of learners.
