The National Research Foundation (NRF) announced
Thursday, June 27, 2013, results of the first cycle of the 2013 Competitive
Research Grant Programs that included six programs based on the principle of
competitiveness to ensure the quality of research and scientific merit to
researchers. 96 proposals have been submitted since the NFR opened participation
March 7, 2013; distributed as follows - (6) proposals for program funding
grants for research collaboration visits of UAE
nationals working as faculty members in the federal and the private CAA accredited
universities in the country, (11) proposals for program funding grants
for research collaboration visits for national
students enrolled in a postgraduate research program (Master’s by research or
PhD studies) in an accredited higher education institution in UAE or worldwide,
(4) proposals for an award program for outstanding
young national researchers who have completed undergraduate studies,
(22) proposals for an award program for young nationals
who have produced outstanding Doctoral or Master’s by research theses,
(49) proposals for research program grants for cooperative research between
accredited universities in the state and the industry field and (4) proposals
for program research grants specific to filing of patents by researchers
working in accredited universities in the State ..
Dr. Husam Sultan Al Ulama, Director of the National
Research Foundation, announced that a marked increase in the number of
proposals submitted by the 63 proposals last year to 96 this year, reflects the
response of concerned authorities’ efforts to support scientific research and
technological development and innovation and to encourage researchers and research
students to participate in research, and contribute to building a research
capacity in the State, as well as to build the National Innovation System,
based on the directives of His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahayan,
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. In line with this vision,
the NRF has allocated four research program grants of the six, for UAE nationals.
The names of the winners will be announced in September
2013 subsequent to all submitted proposals undergoing a rigorous assessment
process by international assessors in the fields of specialty.
