Abu Dhabi, June 22, 2016- The UAE Ministry of Education today signed a joint cooperation agreement with the Watani Al Emarat Foundation to provide students studying abroad with guidance and support as they adapt to their new surroundings. Collaboration between the two parties will specifically focus on creating programs for scholarship students that celebrate Emirati values, encourage global citizenship and foster personal growth.
The agreement was signed by His Excellency Dr. Ahmad Belhoul, Minister of State for Higher Education and H.E. Dherar Belhoul Al Falasi, Director General, Watani Al Emarat Foundation at the Ministry’s Abu Dhabi office.
Commenting on the importance of this agreement, His Excellency Dr. Ahmad Belhoul said: “When our students choose to pursue their higher education studies abroad, they are also acting as cultural ambassadors of the UAE. As such, it is important that they demonstrate the open-mindedness and tolerance deeply rooted in Emirati culture. These values are also integral for developing the interpersonal skills expected of high-caliber university graduates that can succeed in both the public and private sector.”
“Furthermore, our agreement with the Watani Al Emarat Foundation demonstrates the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to strengthening coordination efforts with key partners in order to better serve our university students” H.E. added.
H.E. Dherar Belhoul Al Falasi emphasized the importance of communicating effectively with scholarship students and equipping them with support they need at this phase of their academic and professional lives. H.E. noted, “The Watani Al Emarat Foundation is dedicated to providing Emirati students with the right knowledge and tools to develop into thoughtful and professional graduates. Furthermore, by strengthening the sense of belonging and pride in their country, these students will feel empowered to represent the UAE in the best way possible.”
Under this agreement, the Ministry of Education will partner with the Watani Al Emarat Foundation to develop and put in place integrated communication channels that will include seminars, lectures, training courses and workshops. In addition, both parties will engage in joint efforts to create a culture of social responsibility among university students by encouraging volunteerism and support of humanitarian work in the UAE.
