Mohsen Yafai”, Assistant Dean for Students Affairs at the “College of Food and
Agriculture” at “UAE University” said that the “International
Fund for Agricultural Development” (IFAD) has a great desire to attract
enthusiastic graduates from the “United Arab Emirates University” to work at
the Fund, this will be
activated in the areas of agriculture, nutrition, crop management, and rural
communities, and humanitarian action. This workshop was organized by the
college and was attended by a number of specialists, researchers and students
from the “College of Food and Agriculture” and a delegation from the “Ministry of Finance”.
This workshop was in
preparation for the “World Food Day” which is marked by the “Food and
Agriculture Organization” of the “United Nations” today 16th of
October, with the theme for this year “Sustainable Food Systems for Food
Security and Nutrition”, almost (870)
million people worldwide are chronically undernourished. Unsustainable models
of development are degrading the natural environment, threatening ecosystems
and biodiversity that will be needed for our future food supply. With (842) million
people in developing countries undernourished during (2011-2013), according to a
report by the "World Food Program". And that one-third of the world
production of food is wasted annually through production and consumption, which
is enough to eradicate hunger from the world if exploited correctly.

Mohsen Yafai, expressed the willingness of the University to collaborate with
the Fund to foster student training and faculty exchange between the University
and the Fund for research and future projects, with the hope of finding
innovative ways to fight poverty and hunger and to improve the conditions for
the population living in rural areas in poor developing countries.
