By the directives of
his Excellency Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher
Education and Scientific Research, the Ministry has continued holding
introductory forums for the students who have been accepted to study on scholarships
abroad at its expense for the academic year 2014/2015, and it has recently
organized an introductory forum for the scholarship students, who will study in
the UK and Ireland, at Zayed University in Abu Dhabi.
Mr. Saif Rashed Al
Mazroui, Assistant Undersecretary for Institutional & Support Services
Office at the Ministry, conveyed the congratulation of his Excellency Sheikh
Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan to the students on their success and acceptance in
the UK universities. He also conveyed his Excellency’s call for the students to
be ambassadors for the UAE abroad, and succeed in their undergraduate and
graduate studies in order to return to serve and develop their country. The
forum was attended by Nusra Ma’moun from the Cultural Attaché of UAE Embassy in
London, Hanan Al Ameri, Acting Director of Scholarship and Cultural Foreign
Relations Department, and Stephen Ray from the Cultural Attaché of British
Embassy, as well as the students and their parents.
Al Mazroui talked
during the forum about the deep cultural and educational relationships between
the UK and UAE, and he pointed out that 40 seats for the Emirati students
annually are not properly exploited, and large numbers of Emirati students
graduated from the UK in many disciplines, such as Medicine, Surgery, Engineering,
and other disciplines. He also emphasized that the Ministry is currently focusing
on the State’s most important needs, such as the nuclear energy for the peaceful
and developmental purposes, noting that those students have been chosen for
their intellectual and educational capabilities.
Al Mazroui also said
that the Ministry is planning to honor the innovators, and it has other plans
to develop work in the field scholarships and other fields, calling the
students to identify their educational goals in the foreign country, keep
loyalty to their country, and stay away from the partisan, political, or
suspicious gatherings. It is noteworthy that the Ministry signed several
agreements with the various recruitment bodies to secure jobs for the fresh
graduates, and the Scholarship and Cultural Foreign Relations Department
launched initiatives, such as the Scholarship Portal that includes details and
answers about the foreign scholarships.
Al Mazroui also emphasized
that the students are required to register their names in the offices of the National
and Reserve Service Authority, and set the appropriate time to perform the
service either in the military or the civilian institutions. In the end of the
forum, Al Mazroui responded to the questions of students and their parents,
which were mostly on the issues and procedures of study in the UK.
