The Ministry of
Higher Education and Scientific Research congratulated the teachers in the UAE,
on the occasion of "World Teachers' Day", which falls on the 5th
of October every year. This Day is considered a commemoration of the signing of
the joint recommendation issued by the International Labor Organization and the
Organization of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO) in 1966, concerning the status of teachers.
The celebration this
year is under the theme "Invest in the future, invest in teachers",
where teachers make up an important investment for the future of all countries
around the world, as they are the cornerstone of the communities.
The UAE has paid
great attention to raise the status of teachers due to their pivotal role in
the development of the educational system, by improving the teachers’ financial
position, raising their efficiency, working to guarantee the development of
their performance to achieve their educational mission, and providing all the
elements available to ensure respect and appreciation for the teachers in the
school environment and beyond.
On this occasion, the
Knowledge and Human Development Authority organizes, for the second year in a
row, a competition via the social media platform "Instagram", which
is aimed at school and university students, where each subscriber is requested
to upload a video clip that expresses the reasons for gratitude and
appreciation for the teacher.
The Authority asked participants
to upload the video clip no later than 10:00 PM Saturday, October 4th,
as an independent arbitration committee is going to watch all the video clips
uploaded by the participants, and select the winners based on the stories mentioned,
and winners of the first three positions will receive valuable prizes. The
names of winners will be posted on the Authority’s Instagram and Twitter accounts
on Tuesday, October 7th, and the Authority posted the following
e-mail to communicate with it and answer any queries: socialmedia@khda.gov.ae.
In conjunction with
the World Teachers' Day, the Abu Dhabi Education Council launched on Sunday, 28th
of September, a campaign for one week to celebrate the "World
Teachers' Day", under the title "Thank You My Teacher", and it included
many events to express the appreciation of students and the community for the
teaching profession and the vital and important role of teachers in the
community.
The campaign aims to
encourage students and adults of different age groups to show appreciation for
teachers and their special status in society, and it includes activities in
schools, where students will be allowed to take memorial photos with their
teachers, and retired teachers will be honored.
According to the statistics,
the number of teachers this academic year (2015/2014) amounted to 11,0 79 teachers
in government schools.
