The Diplomatic Ambassadors embarked on their exploratory journey,
which is part of “Our Ambassadors Program” 2018, recently launched by the
Ministry of Education. The program aims to enrich the experience of the Emirati
School students and provide them with the necessary skills and knowledge to
achieve the Ministry's vision to create generations that master 21st century
skills and are equipped with unique and diverse experiences offered to the
program’s pioneers.
The Diplomatic Ambassadors' trip, which was welcomed by His
Highness Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and
International Cooperation, includes a visit to Harvard University and
Georgetown University in the USA. During
the visit, the students will engage in diplomatic work through the United
Nations simulation program, which will give students information on the
mechanisms of presenting issues in international forums, dealing with them,
voting mechanisms and other practices. They will also attend courses and
workshops specialized in diplomatic affairs under the supervision of a number
of specialists and trainers in the field.
The program comes in the context of the Ministry of Education's
keenness to create qualified UAE nationals who can work in the diplomatic corps
in the future. In order to achieve this, the Ministry signed a joint cooperation
agreement with the Emirates Diplomatic Academy in order to benefit from the
expertise of the Academy, its cadres, and the network of lecturers and trainers enrolled in the
Academy. This aims at achieving harmony between the objectives of the program
and the framework for the preparation of youth in the Academy and the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Competent staff of the
Academy work to qualify students who join the program and they follow-up on its
implementation and assess the impact of the whole experience on the awareness
and perceptions of students in the diplomatic field.
The Diplomatic Ambassadors program is an ideal platform for
preparing young cadres, who possess the ambition to work in the diplomatic
corps in the future. The program provides its pioneers with an opportunity to
learn about the concept of international work through specialized organizations.
It also enables the students to learn about the important issues that are
prominent on the global agenda, such as climate change, global warming and
other cultural and humanitarian issues. In addition, the students learn about
the international organizations' mandates, the limits of their influence, the decision-making
methods and stages before adoption and enforcement of such decisions.
The program equips students with several skills, including the
art of dialogue and listening to the other and accepting different views. It
also expands their awareness and knowledge of diverse cultures around the world
through their contact with peers from several countries around the world.
