The Ministry of Education has paid great attention to providing a modern educational environment in line with the country's overall educational development plans and policies. The Ministry has been keen to develop the buildings and school facilities in accordance with the highest international standards consistent with the ambitious plans through which the Ministry started to develop the education system in the country. The plans for the development of school buildings take into account providing the requirements of the education processes and education within a competitive environment that encourages students to develop their sense of innovation and adds another dimension to the concept of the school establishment away from the traditional concept, because developed schools allow community members to use them and take advantage of their facilities in addition to the students.

The number of developed schools reached 75, including 40 schools that the Ministry completed their development works in the last academic year, while 35 other schools are preparing to enter into active service during the next academic year.

His Excellency Eng. Abdulrahman Al Hammadi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Supervision and Support
Services, said that the Ministry is keen in its plans to achieve stability in all components of the school environment. The Ministry has already paid great attention to creating a suitable school environment at the structural level with all requirements that keep pace with the overall development plans within the Emirati school.

His Excellency explained that the development plans initiated by the Ministry of Education at the end of each academic year are in accordance with a detailed study carried out by the relevant authorities in the Ministry in cooperation with other competent governmental bodies. This study takes into account the geographical distribution of schools in the country, and sets priorities for their development according to the highest standards in line with the Ministry's directives aimed at providing a school environment that helps students to positively integrate and interact with the various components of the school community.

In addition, the Ministry has been developing educational facilities which are less than 15 years old. It already developed 3 schools in Abu Dhabi, 7 schools in the Al Ain area, 22 schools in Dubai Northern Emirates and 3 kindergartens and 35 schools in the Northern Emirates. This comes within Ministry of Education endeavors to create a safe, stimulating and attractive learning environment for students.

The Ministry of Education also ensured that the development plan includes all elements of the building in terms of its architectural, mechanical, electrical and sanitary aspects, and also took into account the federal government's directives for the application of sustainability standards and green buildings. Therefore, the development criteria covered several elements, including the development of the reception hall, the main entrance, the architectural facades, the external walls, the administrative rooms, the classrooms, and the reuse and redistribution of spaces, as well as creating a community library that serves community members. It has also worked on the development of laboratories and school facilities, closing all corridors in order to air-condition them, and developing landscapes and green areas.

These schools are in addition to 40 other schools that the Ministry completed their development during the last academic year. This comes in the context of the Ministry’s integrated and gradual plan for the development of all school buildings throughout the UAE, in order to instill a modern and integrated learning environment.
