The Ministry of Education has developed a plan for the development of school Theatre and formed a national team for the purpose, consisting of a number of students from all school grades, for the several positive effects on the refinement of students' personality.
The ministry has paid great attention to school Theatre and included it among its objectives, in order to build a generation that enjoys the technical skills that represent an integral part in the formation of the student's personality, according to Dr. Amna Al-Dahhak Al-Shamsi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Welfare and Activities Sector in the Ministry.
Al Shamsi pointed out that the Ministry has directed with the formation of the national team of the school Theatre and provided that team with all kinds of material and moral support, as part of its interest in the various performance arts; individual or collective acting and performing, in addition to other arts and creative fields, with a view to promote national and cultural educational values in meaningful representational manner, especially enhancing national identity, self-confidence and abilities of the students, helping them to build their characters and enhance their use of Arabic language. Students' participation in theatrical art enables them to express their ideas in a sound language and contribute to solving the problems of their society, in addition to protecting them against negative ideas, through a creative theatrical way.
Al Shamsi also pointed out that the school Theatre national team has led to a significant development in the level of UAE school theatre, as evident in the excellent participation in the Gulf Theatre School Festival for the Arab Gulf States in its seventh session in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the first appearance made by the Theatre Team at Neapolis International Festival of Children's Theatre in its 31st session in Tunisia.
Activities
Al Shamsi stressed that the school stage is considered one of the important activities that develop in the students the basic needs; such as the need to play, the need for knowledge and the need for self-realization, noting that these needs contribute to the refinement and development of the students' personality. Playing enhances students' skills of exploration and acquisition of information and knowledge that develop their mental abilities. Self-realization, on the other hand, instils with the students a sense of belief that they can undertake an important role in society, provide all that is useful.
She added that school Theatre enhances the learners' spirit of teamwork and contributes to linking their daily life to school, which is one of the most important institutions of socialization.
Engineer Khalfan Al-Marashdeh, Director of Skills Development Department in the Welfare Sector, Ministry of Education, stressed that the Ministry has directed to the development of school Theatre and provided logistical support with solid impact that we sensed through the participation of the School Theatre National Team, composed of students from different schools in the state in the School Theatre Festival of the Gulf States in its seventh session in the Kingdom of Bahrain, where the National Team has won four awards out of five awards granted by the Festival; best Theatre performance, best actor, best director and best fashion.
Qualitative leap
Al-Mouradah noted that the participation of the School Theatre National Team in the 31st International Festival of Neapolis for Child Theatre in the Republic of Tunisia has achieved a qualitative leap for the Emirati Theatre, were the UAE show has received admiration and praise from all the theatre critics, rendering it one of the most distinguished of the 130 offers from 15 participating countries from around the world; UAE, France, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Egypt, Algeria, Jordan, Palestine, Iran, Tunisia, Congo, Bahrain.
Atef Salem, the Educational Inspector in the Ministry: The school theatre works to teach the students the principles of language, providing them with the keys to reading and giving them the habit to express their ideas and face the public with confidence courageously, without fearing any students, administrators, teachers and parents.
