The Ministry of Education has revealed a nominal fee has been set for obtaining a "teacher's license" that enables workers in the educational field to carry out their professional activities to the standard criteria set by the Ministry to improve educational performance and advance education in the country, based on the Cabinet's decision for the year 2019.
The educational professions licensing system aims to measure the performance of workers in the education sector (teachers, school leaders and school professions) to ensure their ability to practice their professions with high efficiency and to allow for continuous development and support according to effective support programs. It also aims to provide them with a high level of knowledge and efficiency to provide high-quality education to students reflecting positively on the education process in the country and ensuring that it meets the requirements of this knowledge era as well as future challenges.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry, the fees for educational professions licenses will be applied to test takers in the academic year 2019/2020 and beyond. Test fees will not be applied to test takers before the academic year 2019/2020 in appreciation of their efforts to quickly obtain the license the number which is 5783 teachers. The Ministry stated that fee payment will apply as of September.
The total cost of the license for non-holders of international professional licenses is AED 300, including taking tests and issuing the professional license, where the regulations for the teacher license fees set the amount of AED 250 to apply for all the tests in the first time with an additional AED 100 when retesting or performing the evaluation individually. AED 50 will be charged to obtain the license after completion of all procedures. The regulations also set an amount of AED 100 to assess the professional achievement portfolio after obtaining the license in the renewal process. Payments will be made electronically through the e-Dirham system.
The ministry explained that the fees it set for obtaining the educational profession license are the least expensive globally compared to the United States of America, New Zealand, South Australia and Ireland, according to their approved lists for practicing educational professions. The fees amount to AED 1873 in the United States of America (New Mexico), AED 557 in New Zealand, AED 833 in Ireland, and AED 938 in southern Australia, in addition to renewal fees according to the duration of the license validity.
The educational profession license is a prerequisite for practitioners of the education profession in the UAE by the end of 2020 and those who do not have it cannot practice the profession. Educational professions licenses are divided into three types, which are the 'teacher's license' which targets all teachers of academic and professional subjects and the languages that are being worked on.
Registration for the two remaining licenses can be made when they will be in effect and exam times are announced later this year. The two licenses are the 'school leaders license' targeting principals, vice principals and the 'school professions license' targeting librarians, learning resource centers, laboratory secretaries, teacher assistant, academic advisers as well as advising and counselling professionals and specialists, noting that the school profession license for the People of Determination specialist will begin soon, according to steps that will be announced.
