In his worksheet presented in the Symposium, Dr.
Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Assistant Professor at the Department of Curriculum and
Instruction at the United Arab Emirates University stressed that the role of
schools is not restricted to implementing the educational policies developed by
the policymakers only, but extends crucially and vitally to creating an
environment that attracts students as well as teachers through establishing the
concept of effective administration that guides teachers in their capacities of
being responsible educational leaders.
He reviewed the range of specifications that should be
met by the school administration and teacher to embody the notion of the
optimum investment of all the constituents of the educational process. He said
“A successful principal cares for teachers and students and knows how to deal
with pressures. A successful principal should master the logic thinking skills
and have good physical and psychological health.
He added that a successful principal should invest in
and for teachers and should turn teachers into resources for solutions and
proposals for any obstacles that may encounter the educational process.
Furthermore, principal should open a dialogue with teachers to allow them to
brainstorm and have the opportunity for establishing positiveness of thinking
within themselves. This reflects positively on the academic achievement of
students.
He referred to that indicators show that school
administrations are successful in managing their cadres, indicating that it is
best realized through the reduction of the teachers’ absence rate and teachers’
willingness to propose positive initiatives that serve the educational process.
