His excellency, Hussain Al Hammadi, Minister of Education, confirmed that the Arab Reading Challenge has become a fuse that ignites in students across the Arab world the love of reading, and fills them with a passion for knowledge and research. He pointed out that the UAE with its wise leadership has a vision that is far-sighted. The Arab Reading Challenge is a means through which it corrects the path and desires and directions of successive generations so that reading becomes the methodology, and daily life model for it.
This came on the occasion of the crowning of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, of the champion of Arab Reading challenge. His Highness said "We congratulate the daughter of Palestine, the student Afaf Raed Sharif, who won the title meritoriously, and as a result of her great insistence and challenge. This competition aspires for this quality to be a feature of our students in the country and outside it because the challenge has become universal and directed to all. His Highness considered reading as the key to sublime minds, and an important entry to knowledge, and a way to self-improvement to see the latest innovations in science and arts, and to enrich the imagination of our students and refine their souls.
Plans and Programs
His Highness concluded that the plans and programs of Ministry of Education give students ample time for reading. The Ministry has adopted a broad initiative to establish a culture of reading among students and the educational field, which includes a series of programs, activities, and events that contribute to the advancement of reading and achieving the goals set by the government and embodied in its modern vision of a society characterized by leadership, culture, knowledge and innovation.
His Highness added that this initiative expands its objectives to include teachers, administrators, educationalists, and employees, in addition to students. He pointed out that it is characterized by its purpose, quality, and exceptional content through the introduction of student motivational competitions, and linking the evaluation of the student's behavior and the teacher's performance in literacy each year. It also calls for the inclusion of reading within the operational plan for schools, which will have an important return to restore the momentum required for reading, and making it a favourable daily habit inherent in all elements of the educational process.
